July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

Hi there, so we filled it with 30 chicken eggs this AM, we've already had ducks and turkeys brewing in there for a week now so we're excited to have it full and to see how we make out.

This is the kids' and mine first crack at hatching our own so we figured it was time to give it a whirl.

Anybody else expecting to hatch on/about the same day?

Ive got silkies and NN turkens in the incubator right now. 20 eggs total. Should be hatching on the 4th of july. Liberty chickens lol

i have staggerd hatch. july 8-12, as of now, and im waiting for my dang hovabator to get here because i collected eggs thinking it would ship in a few days, and its been 7, tomorrow will be the eighth day. i have 19 eggs to put in there and for the oldest eggs i made a quick homemade incubator until the incubator gets here, so i started 12 more today. so in the end, i will have two incubators (ones already full).
*8 buff orps
*8 "purebred mix" (ebay lol)
*7 barred rock
*7 Mille Fleur D'Uccle
*2 guineas
*1 maran
*5 asst. cochins
*18 frizzles
*23 (?) barnyard mixes

And i think my silver laced wyandotte is going broody on me. she made a nest in the shed we put horse feed, saddles, ect. and she seems to be collecting a clutch and she was laying on them both times i checked on her. she only has three right now, so hopefully she will lay some more. last time i had a broody hen, she hatched her babies when we were gone for the weekend (she hatched 7 according to left over egg shells) and the dogs were carring her around when we got home and her 7 babies were no where to be found. long story short, we heard peeping in an egg, took it in the house, it hatched, and i think its gonna be a roo. its like 3 wks old and we bought it 6 guinea and 4 cochin friends.

How exciting! This is my 1st attempt at hatching also. I've got 16 Cochin eggs and 15 Polish that I just put in there this afternoon. So they should hopefully be hatching the same day as yours. I hope I don't do anything wrong!

This is awesome! Sorry I would have responded sooner but yesterday was beautiful so my gardens were calling to me. I have one bratty hen that insists on digging around in the dirt in my front flowerbed and if she'd just eat the ants and not my lupins we'd get along a lot better, haha.

gamebirdsonly, you have other Faverolles? I bought the 3 eggs cause I thought they were cute when I googled them, hopefully they decide to make an appearance...

farmgirlforever18, you have other BO? I have just the one, she was thrown in the box with a bunch of hatchlings I bought back in April, the kids named her Carlos, haha. She's a sweetie and very pretty so I - same thing - found 3 eggs to buy hoping to make a buddy for her. This is Carlos...



Of course, matlock585, I have 4 cochin, 3 blue and 1 black and two of each sex. I believe they are standards however but so FREAKIN' cute!

My husband couldn't believe I was doing 40 but I kept telling him if you're gonna take the time to do, do it! I'd hate to only put 20 in and have 5 hatch since it's my first time and not sure if I'm doing it right! You have other guineas? My husband had some when he was a kid and I was hoping to find a few to put in there but no luck this time so maybe next - I hear they are noisy things. So you still have those dogs?

Ksane - so we are bang on for dates hey? That's awesome! Completely new to this myself so should be interesting....what kind of incubator you using?
