July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

I put some Ringneck Pheasant eggs in a few days ago. They take a little longer to hatch. I am hatching some from another batch I put in right now. This is my first Pheasant hatch.

About the dogs, yes we still have thim, this just happend memorial day weekend, they are golden retrievers, and with 5 kids, getting rid of them isnt really an option. we have a group of guineas about 3 1/2 weeks old that we bought last weekend (there are 6 of them. to lavendars, two royal purples, and two pearls) and we hatched 4 that are 2 weeks old that are pearls. my little 3.5 wks. were loud, so we put them outside

with the heatlamp, but its not that cold and they went outside along with 4 cochins and 1 barnyard mix.

Hi!

I'll be your hatching buddy!
I just set 12 mixed colors araucana, and 10 lavender araucana.
I am really hoping for a good hatch, since my last one netted me nothing, as my stupid incubator spiked a very high temp for several hours.

Mine are due to hatch on the 14th of July..so we will be close with our hatchings.

LuvMyBLR, mystery eggs, where did you find those? That would be fun but I'm not near knowledgable on the breeds yet so I'd go crazy trying to guess who was what!...maybe you'll have some ducklings -

cmom - that's cool! My husband wants me to do pheasants one day...we'll see how this first batch goes first. Do they take 28 days?

blkwdw - My turkey eggs are Red Bourbons, and I have 6 Ridley Bronze (?) outside that are about 2 months old. They are unbelievable, I probably enjoy them more than my chickens cause they crack me up so much. I don't know why everyone says they are so dumb, they seem smarter than half my chickens. They are like bratty puppies, follow me everywhere...

My ducks in the incubator are 7 Welsh and 1 Buff, I have 3 Muscovys already so my DH is wondering what I plan on doing with all these ducks, but I was BS-ing this old gal one day and she wanted to sell me some Muscovys and I was all excited cause I'd been wanting a couple/few ducks for awhile, well I get home and realize these guys don't QUACK

- that'll teach me to do my homework first. So needless to say, I WANT some that quack! LOL

My husband has to build me a bigger one too, I started with one little one with a great big run, now I have my big dog kennels all rigged up for chickens too and I'm still making him make me a big fancy winter one cause we get darn chilly up here come winter! Guess after asking me to get chickens for 10 years he's regretting that I finally did!

greening, I hear you on the dogs. My daughter has a little rat dog that likes to cause trouble and get my husband's lab puppy following his lead, they've been good with all my free-rangers to date (knock on wood), but I feel like I have to keep an eye on them all the time cause I don't trust the rat and his muscle. I have a hound that's awesome, my birds can run underneath her, walk on her, whatever - she doesn't care...but if she hunts up a wild one in the pasture, it doesn't have much luck getting away...

ndoles, Hi Norma!
Oh No - was it just recently you lost that batch? Brutal - I'm so scared I'm going to screw something up! My hubby tells me not to be such a spaz, "When I was a kid all we used was a heatlamp and turn it ourselves when we remembered...", I can't even imagine! Him and his brother were terrible though, they used to swap out the eggs from under the broody hen and duck and laugh when the Mama's would get so frustrated when their babes wouldn't swim when they were supposed to and would when they weren't.

BOYS!

Good luck everyone.

(I hope these are crossed fingers...haha)

So I've got 9/14 of the banty cochin eggs left. The only ones that didn't develop anything are the four mille fleur callicos, which is what I wanted the most, and the one that had a hole in it. But, the nine are kickin all around. Today was the first day I could see them moving, and they are some real acrobats in those shells now.
It's so hard to wait on 'em.
Since I won't get any callicos, I guess I'll probably have one more hatch this summer, and I'm thinking about trying a few turkeys too.

Hope everyone else's are doing good.

Haha they are mystery eggs from a friend! I was at her house and randomly was like "I'll take any eggs ya can find" and so began the treasure hunt for 14 eggs! quite a few did come out a shed area they have for the birds free ranging so they can have shelter quickly. Maybe a goose or duck wandered in there!

Father and Mother would NOT be happy. I would ecstatic though

But yeah trying to figure out WHAT in the world the mix is will occupy me for a couple months till I decide who to sell!

No I've never tried before. I made an incubator out of a styrofoam cooler and put some eggs in to give it a try. I just candled and removed the ones that aren't developing. 10 NN and 4 silkies left
