July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

Well I've been in a meeting all day and the 1st one hatched! I knew it would. 2 more have pipped! So exciting! He's black and soo cute. When I figure out how to post pic I will

QUESTION! I live in Arkansas and it is very hot. When the chickens hatch I was going to put them on my back screened in porch. Durring the day it's 95 or above. Do they still need a heat lamp during the day?

I GOT A PIP IN ONE OF MY COCHIN EGGS!! 6:00 PM (in 10 min is officially 21days). There's 14 Cochins and 10 Polish in there.
I might get a Cochin after all!!

not a very good pic. he is black with a little white spot ontop of his head!

You're so lucky! You know you're at least going to get one :) He's so cute!!!
As to your other question-I wouldn't put them under a lamp if the temps were 95 degrees. They might need one at night but not daytime.
My 2 wk old Silkies are in an air conditioned building and I kept them at 90 the 1st week then (as it turned out) about 80 the 2nd week. It's about 78 in here now and they haven't had the lamp on in a couple days. They're doing super good.

Hi Everyone!

Thought I'd check in, been so excited the last couple days I've hardly slept so I'm sure feeling it now, yeesh, need a nap - HAHA!

Chick #9 (a BO) just popped out seconds ago, there is the goofy 5 ducklings, it looks like 2 chick eggs with pips at this moment, and then STILL the same duck & turkey egg as this AM with pips and have done nothing else...I really hope I get at least ONE turkey...

Congrats everyone that had babes, how you making out Cynthia12? I had sent you a PM earlier...did you get it?

Did you check the temp out on the back deck asearcby79?

That cochin put in an appearance yet Ksane?

Cute babe, JeffJustJeff, I had ordered Black Copper Marans this spring and they all ended up being roos, haha - oh well, that's the luck sometimes.

Oh and get this! I had grabbed 4 blue eggs from my neighbours cause she just has the one Ameraucana hen, BUT in her menagerie she has both a Red Sussex X roo and an Ameraucana roo, well my 3 little Red Sussex X that have popped out look just like our babes last year when we had ordered them, then these two little blue eggs bust open and sure enough, Big Red was the daddy of those too, must be cause they are yellow w/ a little brown with pink legs! haha

The other two blue Ameraucana's I got from somewhere else are BLUE with BLUE legs,

. I still have two of the neighbour's blue eggs and 3 brown eggs in there so I am interested in seeing if that Ameraucana roo had anything to do with anything, or if he's just around for his good looks - LOL.

So if I have an Ameraucana/Red Sussex X hen w/ the yellow legs, I wonder if that means she'll have brown eggs when she lays or if she can still have coloured eggs? Does anyone know? I just thought that was kind of neat and don't have a clue how that works. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

HELP! 1st chick doing good. 2nd chick is a little stuck but helped it a bit& it's coming along. 3rd chick pipped about 1/2 way around and stopped. Not moving! Lots of red & gooey stuff coming out. I can see the beak but not moving at all. What should I do?

:jumpy:jumpy Well, we are now up to 3 hatched chicks. Hubby and I had to leave for a couple of hours and I left the oldest (16) in charge. I get a very excited cell phone call from her saying that out of the blue, a chick appeared in the corner of the incubator! They didn't even see it pip or hatch! We now have a blondie, a black with white/silver belly (I think my Black Australorp was obviously the mommy), and now a strawberry blond chick (still super wet, so hard to know if it will be blond or reddish).

Also watching a white egg that is majorly pipping. All the eggs from our farm are brown or blue/green, so this is a mystery egg I bought from another farm...it will be fun to see what comes out!

Hope everyone else is having good results tonight! Its great to hear what is happening in other incubators around the planet

My Cochin egg hasn't progressed any in the last 4 hrs but a Polish has 2 tiny chips. They're going so slow! And I'm still worried, too.
