July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

I appreciate your curiosity and I will learn by it.. I am not a teenager that has to experience mistakes, i can learn from others and if others learn from mine, all the better. I am sorry this happened, but am glad you saved the rest.
Mine are due to hatch on the 17th. What I learned from the last group was to NEVER, EVER open during lockdown... I had a bunch popping out and the temp creeped up to 102 and I opened the bator to get them out and the two that had pipped shrinkwrapped... two more still hatched after that, but I believe if I had left them alone, I would have two more little chickies..

On a new note, what do you do when the combined body heat of a bunch of babies increases the incubator temp?

on mine I just open my big vents to let the extra heat go. Usually the humidity gets really high after hatching starts, and I have to open them anyway.

I just put my eight cochins on lockdown a couple hours ago... c'mon Friday!

I also bought some Golden lakenvelder eggs to set right behind these.
yep... I got the hatching bug bad!

Mine go on lockdown tonight! Most of my eggs were too dark to see in them but 4 of them I did see little babies moving around! Wohoooo!

OK Down to 7 eggs now, had 2 quitters but the rest show lots of movement and strong veining

so I'm gonna try to leave them alone until the 15th. Although they do look a little bigger than I think they should at 13 days, so maybe they'll be coming early.
