July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

My babies are due on the 15th. I am calibrating my second incubator now so I can put the eggs in for lockdown. I ordered another just like mine but apparently tho I asked for it to be sent priority mail (5 days) it was sent parcel post (4 weeks). That will be a little late for me. lol I already have more eggs in the incubator, marans that I set on the 10th. So can't hatch my wheaten ameraucanas in the same incubator.
My emergency incubator that I got at the feed store is the "little giant". Not as nice as hova bator 1588 for sure. Hopefully it will work for hatching. I have two humidity gauges at different levels and 3 thermometers just trying to get it to 100 degrees and 65 humidity for my hatch.
I sooo hope I get some chicks. I have never seen this little miracle happen so I really hope everything works. When and if I see that first little pip... I will probably not be able to contain myself! I have to work all day for the next two days...I won't be home for any early pips. Probably for the best. I don't think I will be able to concentrate on nails! ( I own a salon and do nails)

edit: wait..do you see a "pip" or is it the "zip"? ack!!

another edit: moved 11 eggs over to my hatcher. Sadly I really only have hopes for 3 or 4. Sigh... hope they come through. My first hatch and not sure what I did wrong because they all started to develop... sigh.... come on babies...

Day 20. Saw a few of the eggs rocking a little last night at 10p.m. - hoped I would wake up to pips, but not yet. I have heard faint tapping sounds coming from inside the bator. We'll be gone most of the day - so hope I don't miss it all.

Update: As of 7:00 am we have had 2 additional eggs pip.

The first and original egg doesn't seem to get the idea that it needs to crack around the shell, instead, it just keeps working on a bigger hole.

We are hearing much louder peeping this morning versus yesterday morning. When I put my ear up to the ventilation hole I can even hear rhythmic tapping! This is so much fun, but I have to admit I'm getting a bit impatient. Its been almost 24 hours since the first egg pipped...poor thing must be tired!

Anyone else have any progress overnight?

I have a blue that hatched early this morning

The other one that pipped has not done anything else, but I can hear it peep. The other wiggler is not pipped, and I can't hear any peeping. Other than that, nothing..

We have a chick!!! Our first little blondie just hatched! It took 24 hours for it to do it, but the last hour it finally zipped around the shell, and within a couple of minutes it was out. Now, its quite wet and tired (and loud!!). Its laying, mostly on its back, but keeps trying to get up...is that normal? Also, it has a little something by its bum....cannot tell if it pooped, or if I'm seeing what was left of it absorbing the yolk.

Is anyone able to tell me if the above two things are normal/ OK? Thank you!!!

I would say yes, mine flail around and often flop into every position imaginable, stretching & getting used to those legs I 'spose. I had a duck go on his back and he was like a turtle for a few minutes but finally got it figured. Also some of them were a little goopier at the bottom when they came out, that's where they detach, so I didn't worry to much and it just dried up. CONGRATS!

I am so nervous, had to put my 2 blue japanese silkie eggs in other incubator. One was pipping on the turner this morning. I am at work now.

Just sent one of my friends over to house to check on it LOL

Thank you LadyBirdsPalace! Since writing earlier, the chick is mostly upright, although it seems to be using the other eggs in the incubator to prop itself up. The long ropey looking thing is still attached to the bottom, but doesn't seem to be bothering it. I suppose I'll leave the chick in the incubator until its fully dry and the dangly thing on its butt starts to dry up. Hoping it will have a buddy soon to keep it company.
