July 18th "Due Date"! Anyone else?

Yes, I am expecting chickens from MPC this week!

They are shipping tomorrow. As for what to expect, I ordered the 25 large fowl pullet assortment, so it will be a surprise.

So excited, I'm finding it hard to sleep!
Spent the entire day cleaning out the garage and setting up the brooder. I was a white tornado!
Now I'm worried that the garage will be too stuffy...I know that drafts are not good for them, but it seems so close in there! Best I can do is monitor the temperature and humidity and move them if they seem uncomfortable.
Unfortunate that the temperature has to be so high this week!

A little worried about the post office... Spoke to someone on Friday, and asked how they handle shipments of live chicks (which, I'm sure, are few and far between for this particular branch). She told me they'd "probably" have a carrier come out to the house to deliver the chicks on the morning they arrive. But to be sure, she gave me the number of the "carrier building", and warned me "they take a long time to answer the phone". Well, I wasn't able to get anyone to answer. Going to try again today...
Of course, I'm more than willing to run over and pick them up if they'd give me a call whenever they arrive. I'd prefer that to the possibilty that they'd be sitting in a hot truck while other stops are being made...

Can't imagine what it will feel like when I open the box...fingers crossed!

Hope to see pictures of everyone's babies!

I sure have to admire those of you that are willing to order an assortment and take your chances! I have been reading up for three years, I belong to a poultry club, haunt the Internet, read various poultry & farm magazines, and still I struggle with deciding which breed to order! I would be going crazy waiting to find out what someone else decided to send me 25 of.

This is actually my 3rd order from MPC. I ordered 1 or 2 several varieties before and have to say, while I do have my favorites, there isn't a breed I haven't liked. They each have their own personalities and temperaments. With this shipment, I am hoping for more barred rocks and speckled sussexes, but maybe I will find something I like better. Congrats on your shipment notice!

On the other hand, it's soooooo hot and humid out there and the Ohio Valley, where they are coming from is even hotter! My poor babies!

Lots of cool electrolyte water will be ready for them.
