July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Oh we're in deep! I keep telling myself the 2 doz. shipped eggs have inferior hatching rates to start with.

Oh and I forgot to mention those shipped eggs I received I weighed individually to monitor their moisture lost. I've never done it before so it'll be interesting!

I'm setting tomorrow, June 29th, June 28th in the USA. It is a class project with shipped eggs sold for ゆせいらん (fertile eggs) not for hatching but we told them we were hatching them so they hopefully went for the fertiler ones? Also, they went through JP Post and came next day so they were well taken care of. First ever hatch so I am not over sure about air cells and sutch. I am expecting a low hatch rate because preschoolers.

Wow!! that's quite a job there. I've never monitored the weight and actually last time I didn't even candle the eggs but this time around I plan to candle at day 7 and 10 and throw away any clears so I can have an Idea on approx chicks.
Today hubby and friends just re-enforced a hoop coop I had stocked up in the garage so the 10 3 wks old chicks can start living outside. Only ones to be left inside are the 4 that hatched last week.

I added 10 eggs to the incubator from my flock today to test fertility.

Hello,

This morning I set 12 White Crested Black Polish and 3 unknowns in my new IncuView incubator. This is my first ever hatching attempt.
I let the eggs sit 24hrs before placement, and also candled them, but they all looked the same...couldn't see any air sacks

...anyway I will try again in 7 days.
The temperatures are off 2 deg with each other...the IncuTherm Plus says 101.5 and the IncuView says 99.5.
I know the humidity is correct because I checked it against an Accurite digital (had done the salt test and got 74%) and they both read the same. Tomorrow I get my Brinsea Spot Check Digital Thermometer, so hopefully that will put my mind at rest.
I modified a couple of things with the 'bator...drilled 2 small holes (1/8th) in the side of the lid, so I can use a large syringe to add water without removing the lid (you can't see these in the pic) and also I used a dremel to remove excess plastic on the turning tray to alleviate some binding with the turning arm.
So now it's the waiting game.
