July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

have some peafowl in the bator and some chickens i set in today . day 0 .

already having issues with the chicken eggs...air cell detachment..how much lower is my chance of hatching anyone have ideas =/

ok just wondering is peafowl and peacock the same I'm new here and haven't caught on as yet to all the lingo...of the fowl talk... LOL ok, ok I know bad yolk going back to corner now.....

We bought 3 guineas, and since the one female kept laying eggs everywhere, we collected them all and numbered them, and two of my leghorns went broody, so we're doing this! Today we found 3 keets hatched! So exciting! We've got a few of the chicken eggs under the two broody hens, so I'm hopeful they all hatch.

Today I just picked up 18 Delaware eggs from a farmer close by and will be setting them tonight. I'm expecting hatch date to be 18th and 19th July. 
I will also be testing the fertility of my backyard 8 hens and 1 rooster, I don't expect much because I think the ratio is too large for one rooster to cover but he is so aggressive to other roosters can't put a second one there.

Anyone else hatching in July?

They are the same thing. The peacock is the male and peahen is the female. They are all peafowl.

All bucks are deer but not all deer are bucks
All peacocks are Peafowl but not all peafowl are Peacocks
Peafowl is all of these and Deer is all of these

The light bulb in the incubator blew today. That's the second time so far during this hatch. I am going to switch to a more reliable type of bulb tomorrow. Otherwise it will just blow again.
The humidity also soared to 70% today. Gah.. I guess hatching eggs on the coast is some sketchy business!
Weee... I hope all of you are having a much easier time haha
Thank goodness I'm not planning a flock around this hatch. I would be a nervous wreck!

I think I'm having sticky chicks when trying the dry-hatch method. And I don't really know how to fix it, if there is even in fact a problem. I think I'm just overthinking (my 3rd hatch) but I want them to hatch so bad. ;P

I think I'm having sticky chicks when trying the dry-hatch method. And I don't really know how to fix it, if there is even in fact a problem. I think I'm just overthinking (my 3rd hatch) but I want them to hatch so bad. ;P

My experience with sticky chicks or ducklings is that they hatched from eggs that didn't loose enough moisture. You can dry incubate and still have humidity be on the high side. I wouldn't raise the humidity any more now. How many eggs are still left? Did you candle them to see if there are any internal pips?

Congratulations on everyone's hatches and good luck for those still waiting. Update, On day 14 tossed 1 clear. 13 looking great. I have a concern on the one that did not have discernable pointy end and was air cell down for the first 7 days, it looks different to the others. Locking down Thursday.

The weird thing is I kept a much drier hatch than the two in the past and I didn't have these problems when I had excess humidity. I had a few chicks with mild navel issues in the past, just a bit swollen, but they healed fine. I also had eggs that didn't hatch so I pretty much knew the humidity was too high. I didn't have a single sticky chick when I had high humidity.

When we candled on day 18 the air cells looked pretty good I thought. I'll do my best to hold the humidity within normal range (65-70%) and think I will candle a couple right now just to check.

They aren't really late, day 21 is just barely starting (I set late at night, bad habit). But I haven't had this particular issue before. Thank you for the advice!

I wouldn't panic, seeing as they aren't even late. Sticky chicks will usually be just fine. Moisture loss varies by egg... a smaller or more porous egg will loose more moisture. People who weigh their eggs find they all loose moisture at different rates so you just aim for a middle ground where most of your eggs loose enough.

I struggle with this at some point during any incubation because I want them to loose enough but not too much. It is easier to hatch your own eggs because you can figure out what is right for them with trial and error, but hatching purchased eggs is more tricky because they are all different.
