July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

following along... I've got my first incubator set after 2 rounds with a broody that went wrong. I started with 20 on 6/30 and 7/1 (late evening and early morning) and have so far tossed 2 yolkers.

I'm having trouble with my humidity... I'm in Michigan and my normal humidity is around 80% outside, so needless to say my humidity in my incubator has been way high. I started with water in the wells and dumped it out pretty quick but I know the humidity sat between 60 and 70% for most of the first week... Now I seem to be able to get it down to about 50 (with both plugs out) and as soon as I put a plug in it's back up to 60.

I'm now on day 10, I candled at 7 and think I see a few blood rings forming. I did mark all the air cells so that I can make sure they are getting bigger from here on out.

Experience with this? Help? Suggestions?

Other than that, I'm just going to hang out and watch everyone else hatch chickies!

Hm. You could look into dry hatching. I would leave the plugs out until day 18 or 19, then leave them out and put enough water/wet sponge to make the humidity about 65ish% for lockdown. Good luck!!

and my lav orp rooster is not 100% successful with the big girls.
All our EE's are developing, alot of the silkies, some eggs looked further along than 10 days so I'm expecting a couple early birds.
Well be candling again on Monday with lockdown coming up on Friday

For my birthday my awesome husband bought me a Hovabator with the egg turner, fan and 15 AYAM CEMANI hatching eggs. I am so excited! We set up the incubator last night and put the eggs in this morning. We are looking at a hatch date around July 30. I'm very excited and hopeful :)

We hatched California quail a few years ago using a homemade incubator and were pretty successful, so I hope we are able to have a nice hatch rate again this time. I will post pictures when I get home this evening.

That is exciting! Good luck.. can't wait to see how they do!

Candled tonight, found quite a few eggs with no visible air cell. I have both (large) vents wide open & no water whatsoever, but the humidity still hovers around 40%.. worse sometimes according to the weather. So.. I don't really have anywhere to go with that. I'm just hoping for the best. There is good growth kicking off in many of the eggs, though. Including the ones that lack air cells. And of course there are those that don't look very hopeful at all, but I expected that.
I will give the less hopeful ones until the seventh day, & then proceed from there.

Fingers crossed some air cells will appear. It's early yet.

Progress report: As I type this our hatch is in the middle of day 8, just completed a turn. We candled some random eggs last night and found good development is every one we tried (5 of 46). First "official" candle record/post results will be on third turn of day 10. So far so good. Happy to see no clears out of the couple we trialed. Incubator is holding steady temps and pretty happy thus far its performance.

Woke up this morning to find an early hatcher, I put two eggs on lockdown yesterday, they were the ones I had incubated early to rest my flock fertility this chick was in a hurry was expecting it on Monday.
