July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

following along... I've got my first incubator set after 2 rounds with a broody that went wrong. I started with 20 on 6/30 and 7/1 (late evening and early morning) and have so far tossed 2 yolkers.

I'm having trouble with my humidity... I'm in Michigan and my normal humidity is around 80% outside, so needless to say my humidity in my incubator has been way high. I started with water in the wells and dumped it out pretty quick but I know the humidity sat between 60 and 70% for most of the first week... Now I seem to be able to get it down to about 50 (with both plugs out) and as soon as I put a plug in it's back up to 60.

I'm now on day 10, I candled at 7 and think I see a few blood rings forming. I did mark all the air cells so that I can make sure they are getting bigger from here on out.

Experience with this? Help? Suggestions?

Other than that, I'm just going to hang out and watch everyone else hatch chickies!

I officially started my homemade incubator last night. My temp and humidity has been pretty well maintained so far. I have 6 Easter eggers in there. Can't wait!![VIDEO]

For my birthday my awesome husband bought me a Hovabator with the egg turner, fan and 15 AYAM CEMANI hatching eggs. I am so excited! We set up the incubator last night and put the eggs in this morning. We are looking at a hatch date around July 30. I'm very excited and hopeful :)

We hatched California quail a few years ago using a homemade incubator and were pretty successful, so I hope we are able to have a nice hatch rate again this time. I will post pictures when I get home this evening.

I set 15 on June 27th, 12 Polish and 3 RIR...I did a 13 day candle today and tossed 2 RIR and 4 Polish, all clear. One I thought maybe a blood ring, but I decided to let it go the distance. Lockdown will be on the 15th, when I transfer the eggs to my Hova-Bator hatcher which is running great at 100deg and 65% humidity.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Quick question. I bought eggs to incubate. As I candled them I noticed some of the shells had some clear spots. I don't think that's a good thing. Am I wrong? They didn't look like there was any development. Also the person. Bought them from.. Should I mention-if the shells are like that, they may need to add something to the feed? I know if I sold eggs like that I would want to know they aren't good quality eggs.
I would mention something. It could be an easy fix, and if not hopefully they can monitor their breeders and not hatch eggs from those hens with persistent porous eggs. Good luck with your rest!

Lockdown was last night for our 1st batch. It was hard to see much movement but the remaining 21/25 eggs looked quite full of chick. Here's hoping to a hatch of all pullets ;D
