July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Ok so I started with 6 Easter eggers. Candled day 10 1 was not fertile and 2 looked like blood rings. Not 100% sure so I only tossed the infertile. Question tho. All my eggs have one whole side of the egg as a dark mass. Because it's an Easter egger and I made a candler I'm not sure if it's normal or not or if I can even see anything else in there for that matter. Any thought or ideas. This is my first time hatching so I'm nervous about everything!!

My first time too, but that sounds normal. Details blur at this point. Check air sac progression and movement but don't worry.

I can't see any movement. I know with darker eggs it's more difficult to see anything. I'm paranoid cause I decided to candle with a bright flashlight and now I'm certain I have 2 blood rings.

so only half my eggs might hatch

I have a variety of colors for eggs. The blue and dark brown are very difficult to see. I'd leave them for a couple more days. I got rid of 5 out of 45 because I was sure they were not developing either infertile or quitters. Now that they're gone I'm second guessing myself.

Were these purchased and shipped eggs? Hopefully, you'll get more. Good show thus far though considering you had the incubator temp issue and all. Congrats, and good luck with the chicks.

Yes...these eggs came from Dick Horstman who sells on BYC. I purchased 12 WCBPolish and he sent me 3 RIR extra. At day 13 candle I tossed 4 Polish and 2 RIR, all clear, leaving me with 9 viable eggs.
'NEWS FLASH'...2 more Polish have hatched and being Sunday, a miracle took place...the RIR started zipping, 24 hrs after it first pipped in the small end.

I removed the 3 largest Polish chicks to their temporary motel and took out all the discarded egg shells to make sure the RIR had space...I also put a moistened sponge next to her (?) as the lid had been opened several times, and wet the membrane with a Q-tip.

I took her out of the egg carton because her legs were up and she didn't seem to be able to push herself out...it must have been a tight fit in that shell!

This will be their temporary home for the first couple of days so I can keep an eye on them more easily

...then they will go down below to their luxury hotel for the next 3 weeks

complete with 'Momma Cave'...what bliss

So now we are at 77% hatch rate and 1 of the last 2 Polish has pipped!

My first hatch and so far this hatch I opened every egg I tossed just for peace of mind. It keeps me from second guessing. Luckily I've been right on all I've tossed so far. If and when I get one wrong I'll feel horrible but hopefully it keeps me from making the same mistake twice.

I had only 10/21 hatch but they're a lively bunch and all were very healthy though some were a bit sticky. I had them out for a bit today:

This bunch was hatched by my broody. It was her first time setting but she rocks. Of 9 eggs, 1 was infertile. She accidentally stepped on one hatching and it died so was down to 7 chicks that hatched without incident. I ended up rescuing the last to hatch because she had abandoned the nest to take the other chicks afield. I caught it in time and stuck it in a brooder with the slightly older chicks. He/she is completely fine now: :)

In my second incubator was that running a few days after the first 'bator and setting hen, we had 12/18 hatch (one's still going at it actually!). The only bit of sadness is losing the first hatcher when it got his head stuck in the divider we rigged to separate bloodlines.
