July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Just went and boxed up the first hatchers. These are all mixed breed and some crème legbars. 2 mixed breed and 1 female crème legbar have hatched so far. So out of one mixed batch of eggs I started out with 10 dozen and am down to 76 eggs (6 dozen, 4 eggs). Out of the other batch of mixed breed I started out with 7 dozen and am down to 64 eggs (5 dozen, 4 eggs). I picked up one dozen on my way home when I saw a sign for eggs for sale and have 6 left of those and 2 have hatched. Out of the crème legbars I started with 4 dozen and am down to 42 (3 dozen 6 eggs) and 1 chick. So if everything goes well with this batch I should get 191 chicks if they all hatch.

Today is my hatching day...I have 9 eggs, 8 Polish and 1 RIR...3 of the Polish have pipped and also the RIR, but the RIR has pipped at the wrong end...should I stand pointy end up in an egg carton to help the chick?...right now it is laying flat.
There is more to this story...at day 17 my IncuView quit working, no idea why...the eggs had lost 1 deg before I noticed and were down to 98.5.
I quickly transfered them to my Hova-Bator, which was switched on but not adjusted (I was playing around with the water, checking humidity). I turned them by hand for a day until lockdown last Wednesday. I got the humidity stabilized at 63/64%...keeping my fingers crossed.
I don't think there s any worries on the 1 degree change, mine had gone down to 97 one day when I woke up in the morning and they are still hatching. Not sure what to do on the wrong end pipping, I have one that has done that but I'm afraid to do anything so I'm leaving it. All the best. take pics when they finish hatching

so many eggs to keep up with!!! That's for pro's.

Locking down today, my first ever incubator batch! I started with 20, and at day 13 was down to 12. Well, today's candling revealed what looks like 12 good eggs (2 I didn't see moving but development looked right, the rest were wiggling around in there)! I'm super excited, after 2 failed hatches with a broody hen (neither her fault, it's a long story) I'm just hoping something hatches! I certainly am not expecting 12 chicks, I'm just hoping for 1 for my first hatch ;)

So excited!!!

BTW, mine are all barnyard mixes. My only roo is a black sex link and hens are assorted Isa brown, EE, 4 green eggs and 8 brown.
All the best.. hoping you get more than you expect!!!

Well I had 1 Polish pip, zip and hatch in the last 2 hrs

...the other 4 pips have made no progress since early this morning...still keeping my fingers crossed.
P.S...the hatched chick is strong and 'she' (hopefully) is stumbling over the other eggs and rolling them about...hope she isn't disturbing them too much.

Since my last chick no progress on the others, the one that started zipping on the wrong end didn't make it. Not sure whether it was from the other chicks moving the eggs too much or it was just a weak chick and could not push out. I'm hopping the other eggs will make it tomorrow since some of the eggs were incubated on the 28th.

12 chicks out of 29 eggs is not a good turn out.

I hope you get more chicks! If you started some on the 28th then they are only on day 20!

We did our day 10 candling on day 9 1/2. Our broody is down to three good eggs out of 6. I cracked all three to make sure, one infertile and two quitters. My daughter is having better luck. Of her six, five are still looking good. The one questionable looks like a quitter but I'm giving it until day 14 to be sure.
