July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

This morning there were several newly hatched chicks under my broody Isbar. The Brahma chick hatched, an Isbar, and 4 Hedemora. Two eggs left under her. She did an awesome job setting for a first timer. I have a video, but don't have a place to upload it. Pics tomorrow of them!

These are the Hedemora my incubator hatched:

Super cute, congrats on all your chicks!

Awesome!!!!!

Today is hatch day for me and I woke up to one Delaware getting out of it's shell, One of my own eggs has started to zip. I have to go to work and can't wait to see how many with make it..

Praying for the little fuzzies.

I might get some speckled sussex and Buff Orp from my farmers and planters store, I have been trying to stay away from that store.

Well I didn't make the "walls" tall enough and the chicks are now climbing all over the place. Identifying them is going to be a crap shoot! Six chicks out, one more zipping out of 30 eggs that made it to lock down
All the best with the hatch, mine just started hatching.. Hopefully once they grow you can tell them apart or at least some will stay in their designated place

By the way in your brooder and coop do you have separate areas for them already set up?

I won't be putting them up for sale until they are a week old or so, so at least that will but me some time to chat with the breeder and try to figure out what's what. They are currently all together in the brooder, I tried to write down who hatched out of which egg as they hatched. Good luck with your peeps as well!

It looks like everyone is making great progress. My eggs go into lockdown on today and the other batch in a couple days. I need to candle again and will get a count of how many I have of each breed left. I am very excited.

I could just kick myself. So I had 2 incubators going. They were a few days a part on setting. So I candled my eggs..90+ and thought that I had a lot of eggs not developed. So I take my eggs out that looked bad when candled and start to open them to see what I could see. Egg#1 chick on day 14. Crap! Think about my eggs and think well I I didn't see any movement in this egg and open egg #2. Baby on day 10. Well I feel like crap now even more than before. So I candle the next egg... It was rotten.. I bring the eggs back in and candle them all... Again? This time I have my daughter look at them. We decided that if there are any veins.. We keep them. We did see many eggs that were still clear. Since she is in FFA and had to do some work on poultry she said that several of the chickens that laid the eggs really needed to be fed oyster shells. Some shells were really weak. Even though I don't sell my eggs to others to hatch I do check mine by candling them to see how the shells are. There is a difference. I'm not sure if anyone else does this or not. So now I have one incubator with 40+ eggs. So we will see what we come up with for my 2 hatch dates.
I find the porous eggs much harder to candle due to all the spotting inside. Several years ago I was buy eggs from a guy that had a flock of Buff orps. The eggs where very porous and it looked like very little of them where developing. So I did like you and started opening some up. I did like 4 or 5 and most did have development. So I left them alone and candled again a week later. Still really hard to see development. With those eggs I would just leave them all up until lockdown time and them candle them. That seemed to be the only time to really be able to see them well. I had a lot of porous Dominique eggs but I also had sever rotten out of that batch so I didn't want to leave any that might turn rotten. I may have tossed some good ones but it was for the greater good.
