July 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

400

Crappy pic but will take one when I move them into the brooder. I can't even estimate how many have hatched. Maybe 70 out of 80 something. Quail are generally easy to hatch, well in my opinion they are easy for me. I have much better luck with them than chickens but this is my first run in my cabinet incubator. I have at least 100 chicken eggs hatching later on this month.

Wow!! Congrats, that's a lot of quail, do you sell them?
Waiting for the brooder picture.

I have some eggs I'm leaving in even though I'm pretty sure they aren't going to make it. It's tough to tell with darker eggs. So, my question is, when do the weeping or exploding eggs happen? Am I safe to leave them until day 10 or should I get them out now?

I have left eggs till hatch day with no smell or exploding issues but being on the safe side candle at day 14 and toss the clear. On this batch I had a clear on day 10 that was well developed on day 14 so I was glad I didn't toss it on day 10.

Thanks you! Yes, I sell them. I have 2 more batches of 80 or so due to hatch next week and the week after. I hatched these to replace some of my older quail, as well as the next batch. The 3rd I will be selling all of them.

My July hatch in incubator is complete. Last egg hatched last night! Out of 18 eggs set, 17 hatched. The one I lost was not fertilized when I candled it.

There must me something in the water at my house... I already have one silkie sitting on eggs and now, a week later, these two have taken over the nesting box I made for the silkies. Now to decide if I give them eggs or not...

Minor update: reached seventh day and candled. I removed two that didn't have anything going on and one that had a bright red line on the inside wall of the shell (blood ring? Anyone want to advise on this one? I hope I did the right thing) the rest have been laid flat in the incubator for the rest of the incubation.
Plodding along. :)

Oh, btw.. Air cells are doing well now. Also, I am not entirely sure they weren't present earlier. I purchased a much, much better light & now I see things much clearer, so maybe that was the issue all along. Or maybe my humidity levelled enough. Either way, I'm happy about it so I'm not going to worry about it too much. :)
