Day 14 Update

Barred Rock: One of the previously marked eggs with a "?" candled very bright. Did further water wiggle test and no movement. Cracked open and obvious blood ring. Total of 11 Barred Rock eggs advance to lock down phase.

Delaware: Good development of eggs with strong veining. One Delaware egg went to further water wiggle test and no movement. Cracked and there was an embryo but obvious blood ring. Quitter. Total of 12 Delaware eggs advance to lock down phase.

Copper Maran: For the most part eggs too dark to effectively candle other than sighting air pockets. Two eggs were obviously different than the rest. They candled much brighter. Further wiggle test of both eggs: one egg sank and other egg showed no movement. Cracked both eggs and no real development in one and blood ring with small embryo in other. So, one with no development and one quitter. 12 Copper Marans advance to lock down phase.

Total of 35 eggs out of original 48 will go to lock down unless something drastic happens during turning or what not. No further candling will be conducted.

I'm excited to read your progress report. We have similar numbers but I'm a few days behind you.

We are locked down...
I know they all will be cute but we've got a special couple in from our blue silkies and from our BLRW X Lav Orp
There is even a RB X EE blend.
Looking at 24 now. Fingers crossed.

I gave up on 5 of the 6 eggs that I thought might be doing nothing. I'm not going to break them open because candling showed no reason to believe they developed at all. I just double bagged them, documented, and threw them out. 1 Welsummer, 1 Ameraucana, 1 Legbar, and 2 Brahmas.

I'm down to 39 eggs. I'm going to candle a select few on Sunday, including the last questionable one. I'm doing it as a lesson for the kids. After that I'll try to be patient until Day 14-16.

Congrats. How many more to go; or are you done now?
I woke up to 4 more hatched, before I went to bed last night one of the 5 died I guessed too much heat and reduced in brooder, others are doing fine this morning. First time to loose a chick ever.

I have 17 more eggs to go

Today is my hatching day...I have 9 eggs, 8 Polish and 1 RIR...3 of the Polish have pipped and also the RIR, but the RIR has pipped at the wrong end...should I stand pointy end up in an egg carton to help the chick?...right now it is laying flat.
There is more to this story...at day 17 my IncuView quit working, no idea why...the eggs had lost 1 deg before I noticed and were down to 98.5.
I quickly transfered them to my Hova-Bator, which was switched on but not adjusted (I was playing around with the water, checking humidity). I turned them by hand for a day until lockdown last Wednesday. I got the humidity stabilized at 63/64%...keeping my fingers crossed.

Locking down today, my first ever incubator batch! I started with 20, and at day 13 was down to 12. Well, today's candling revealed what looks like 12 good eggs (2 I didn't see moving but development looked right, the rest were wiggling around in there)! I'm super excited, after 2 failed hatches with a broody hen (neither her fault, it's a long story) I'm just hoping something hatches! I certainly am not expecting 12 chicks, I'm just hoping for 1 for my first hatch ;)

So excited!!!

BTW, mine are all barnyard mixes. My only roo is a black sex link and hens are assorted Isa brown, EE, 4 green eggs and 8 brown.
