July 4th Hatch-A-Long?

Hope this helps, but I should note- my hatch rate stinks! I usually only hatch out about 60% or so of my eggs. So definitely take what I am saying with a pound of salt. Figure out what works for you and keep on doing it.

Your information was great and much appreciated! The humidity has been driving me crazy. I kept adding water and the hygrometer kept telling me the humidity was DECREASING! (I had a lake in there!) I thought the hygrometer was faulty so I took the incubator back to the store and they replaced it. The new hygrometer worked no better. I have no idea what's going on in there! Weighing the eggs seems like a much more accurate and reliable method. Too late for these guys but there's always next year.

I candled the eggs two nights ago and still am not sure what I'm looking at in the eggs where something is going on. I'm seeing air sacs in eight, an air sac and vessels in one but the other nine are definitely duds. Either Rooster Randy was not up to the task or I drowned them in too much humidity.

I woke up to an early bird this morning, well one had externally pipped. When I got home from work she had hatched. It looked like she had been out of the egg a couple of hours as she was still a little wet! She is one of my Olive Eggers. 11 more to go! Day 20 started at 4:45 today...so I'm sitting here waiting...come on babies!!! I have 6 French Blue Copper Maran, 2 Olive Egger and 4 Easter Egger eggs in the bator! All were developed and had good air cells at lockdown...so cross your fingers for me please!!!!

This morning I have 4 more confirmed external pips and maybe a 5th one but it's hard to tell from the angle of the egg as the little girl that hatched yesterday turned some of the eggs...guess she is getting bored in there and wants some company. I'll be moving her to the brooder in a couple of hours. Keep your fingers crossed...it's so exciting!!!

Well, it is lockdown day for me! Hope I dont forget anything... got the rubber matt thingies (for the floor of hatcher), a sponge, and a way to get water to the sponge without opening the incubator.... I have 32 eggs left (5 looked like duds so I chucked them). Unfortunately, on day 14.5 I still couldn't see much in any of my eggs- just a faint outline of what looked familiarly like growing chicks. So I guess we shall see! Due on Monday but my hatches usually start early.

Hope I dont forget anything... got the rubber matt thingies (for the floor of hatcher), a sponge, and a way to get water to the sponge without opening the incubator.... I have 32 eggs left (5 looked like duds so I chucked them). Unfortunately, on day 14.5 I still couldn't see much in any of my eggs- just a faint outline of what looked familiarly like growing chicks. So I guess we shall see! Due on Monday but my hatches usually start early.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you! I'm trying to stay away from my incubator, one of the pipped Easter Egger eggs hatched and "Early" wants her sister to wake up and play with her so every time I go check she runs around (and over) her sister. So, I'm only checking it every hour to see if anyone else has decided to show up and to check the humidity! Guess I should have taken Early out first thing this morning before the second egg starting zipping, now I don't want to open the bator to take her out as others have pipped. LOL...this is stressful!

Question about my incubator I have to take off the lid to transfer eggs back into it and was wondering if know if there's any other way to get the eggs into lockdown I have the auto Turner in and was wondering if there is a another way to do it

Sorry, I just saw your post now- is it too late? Have they already gone into lockdown? And I wouldnt worry about taking the lid off. Just take the lid off, remove the auto-turner, put in your water, and put the lid back on. It does help, however, if you can add water without lifting the lid off (I use a syringe and straw and put it into the air hole on top of the incubator- placing the sponge/water container under the hole. You can also just use a property sized funnel with a straw to do the same - I tape the funnel to the straw so there are no leaks).

So far two EE's, one OE and one FBCM have hatched! More are pipped...

I have at least one or two that I can see a crack on so that makes me happy and I am hoping they all will hatch
