Mommy hen sits and clucks to her chicks I guess cheering them on, calling them out.
I have noticed my mommy hen has been clicking her beak making cracking sounds. I wonder if that sound causes them to pip?

I wonder so. I'd been tapping the glass to get droplets to clear and they seem to like that quite a bit XD I guess that's my way of clicking to my babies... shoot. I did it. Attached already

I swore I wouldn't until they were out and dry. :'(

and I realized I don't think I ever even said what they were - D'uccles from a porcelain roo over Mille Fleur and Porcelain hens

Sweet, I have 4 D'uccles they are awesome friendly chicks......I have 3 roosters and 1 hen of the D'uccle breed I need to get them some girl friends.
What I am hatching here are brahmas, BR, I can't remember what else the man told me was in there but its a few different breeds.

My other hen is hatching EE's Australorps, BO, and maybe something else. Other hens kept laying in her nest...

I get attached also, this is my first time I feel like I am going to explode........

I already have three D'uccles too - mille fleurs; two hens and a roo but I really wanted porcelains and my roo doesn't seem very happy with the size of his flock. Not to mention they were day olds from a hatchery so very... skiddish of humans from the start. Hatchery chicks tend to experience quite a bit of rough handling so I don't really blame them. I just would like to experience imprinted chicks for once...

Trust me, they could use it. Three failed tries. Threee with no hatches. I'm happy so many of them broke the shells as it is. These guys have terrible odds to overcome.

Me.. for one >> *wiggles butt on hands*

I let my kids handle them a lot when I got these D'uccle they were 9 weeks old and had already been hand raised. They were skittish of us at first but now if we walk out side and open the pen they will climb all over us and get up on our shoulders. They like to give chicky kisses, and preen our hair, I think if they are handled, pet and get fav scratches on the neck they learn to grow on you. They see us and they run for the pen door. They will step on each other trying to get to us.

I guess part of the reason I didn't was also that they all had pasty butt too and of the seven I ordered two had died randomly. No notable reason. I assumed stress because the first was within hours of getting them home - wouldn't eat or drink and just went limp and started crying before dying no matter what I did the second did the same thing later on in the week. It just seems like it'd be easier to convince a chick you're cool if they weren't tossed about by similar creatures, dragged along in machines, dumped into boxes, and finally stuffed somewhere in the post office where hopefully no one working there has to hear the LOUD and ANNOYING. XD

I'd be terrified of me too. They are fine with me now though, in fact the rooster is my favourite because he's the most friendly one in my flock. Hops on their waterer to stare and coo at me through the door. He's a sweety.

That is hard, I am sorry for the loss you experienced.

That is sweet though that he coos at you I have found all of them to be very friendly so far. I cant seem to choose one over the other and they are so funny to watch.

Good luck with this hatch I hope you get 100% after all the heart ache of the others you deserve the babies.

I hope so too but doubt it. I'd be happy oh so very happy if just two had made it.

@Rin: Congrats on your soon to be babies. It sounds like they are doing great.
@Stormy: Sounds like you are on your way to having some chicks soon too.

Hatching vibes to both of you!

I woke up this morning at 3:00am (because I just had to look) and I found a new GLW added to the other 2 chicks!

The one in the teacup seems to be fine now. They last 2 are a bit wobbly still.

The last 2 eggs in the incubator have nothing going on. I candled but wan't confident at all with the BCM because it's shell is so dark. I did realize that the "sealed pip" I had noticed yesterday was not a real pip at all. It was a piece of shell from the 1st BCM that hatched that had been stuck to the egg.

The air cell is pretty small so I really think it was an early quitter or never even developed but I can't see through the shell, so it'll probably be really stinky when I finally crack it open tomorrow.

The GLW egg is so full of chick, I couldn't convince myself either way about movement so I will keep it in the incubator for another 24 hours or so.

It is the beginning of Day #23. Since everything happened Day #22, I figure I will give them both a little more time.

Thank you! Also, how quickly after hatch do you wait before removing them? Fluffed out?
