***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

For chickens, I usually give them 24 hours before I consider helping. If they die between pip and 24 hours, the chances of them being able to make it if you help are pretty slim- they may also be resting and absorbing yolk still, especially if they are early pips. If it's been 24+ hours, and they're alive, they've probably been pushing but need a little help. I will then create a thin zip line in the shell for them and leave them to sort themselves out for another 12-24 hours. That generally gives them time to rest and then push out through the zip line I made.

and it could be - I don't recall the heat in there ever getting high enough to warrant a day 18 hatch either so they were definitely being incredibly early. The main reason I worry about their survival is the fact I opened the bator at such a crucial moment. I can't erase doing that but it was definitely needed because the humidity bumped up to 85% on accident. It's lowered now to about 80-83% Chances high that this effected their outcome?

Well, after showering Egg #2 has a longish hairline crack now. #1 still not doing anything.
*sits full weight on hands* Mrrrph... it's hard when you lost your entire first, second, and third attempts at hatching... I have to keep reminding myself not to get ahead of myself and get too attached too soon

And now egg #2 is clearly pressing on that crack... evil chickie... has me freaking out over cracked egg. I need to go XD Like. Shopping. Or something.

AND I now have a pip #3 ...... I seriously NEED to leave the house now. See you guys in a few hours XD

OMG OMG OMG we have 1 pipping I saw its little beak, mom is cluck cluck clucking and preening her feathers like nothing is going on under her.
I don't hear any peeping though so I hope its ok and just taking a rest it must have happen in the night we just got in from doing our chores this morning and I decided to come peep in on mom and see how she was doing and I lifted her just a little , there it was looked like it was swallowing I saw a lot of beak action or maybe just breathing.......I have no idea but its so great to finally see them.

back from shopping annnnd we have pip #4 and #5. #1 also finally seems to have gotten bigger. :O Will someone please slap me and tell me not to get my hopes up? Plz? They're peeping at me and I can't stop bawling and staring.

#2 has knocked out a small square of shell and I can see the membrane and something orangish.

It seems they all decided to take their time and I'm okay with that - just wish they wouldn't taunt me by making the entire bator shift, wiggle, and peep.

I dunno whether to ignore them or cheer them on. What does a mommy hen do?

Mommy hen sits and clucks to her chicks I guess cheering them on, calling them out.
I have noticed my mommy hen has been clicking her beak making cracking sounds. I wonder if that sound causes them to pip?

I wonder so. I'd been tapping the glass to get droplets to clear and they seem to like that quite a bit XD I guess that's my way of clicking to my babies... shoot. I did it. Attached already

I swore I wouldn't until they were out and dry. :'(

and I realized I don't think I ever even said what they were - D'uccles from a porcelain roo over Mille Fleur and Porcelain hens
