***JULY HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

Day 20 today, and I have a pip on a Blue/Splash silkie egg.

And another pip on an egg that either says BU or BL.

*sigh* I just threw out my last July eggs. Got one chick hatched indoors this month, and had to cull it. *shakes head* here's hoping August goes better.

I'm on day 20.... Lockdown has gone well so far with humidity up and temps for the most part steady. I think I saw a little movement yesterday but no major rocking. I'm hoping they get going today cuz I'm dying with anticipation! I'm trying to be patient cuz I've heard Marans like to run late but I just wish they'd show me something! I'm working from home tomorrow so it would be super awesome of them to decide to pop out then

Welp, bator is cleaned up and running again. Will be putting my own home grown eggs in there tomorrow for an August hatch

The local feed store asked me to bring spare peeps to their farm swap ASAP so I'm very tempted with these...

Updaaate. The 5th one over by the lamp sleeping isn't doing too well

Still looks wet. Will polyvisol without iron be good to give all of them as a precaution?

Can you tell which one is the one I helped? It's surprisingly apparent... even if they are perfectly healthy - not even the bottom of the pecking order(like the 5th one is). But yes telling by their baby wing feathers - I have all porcelains.

Follow the 101 north from Hoquiam, it starts to follow the coast just north of Queets. Keep following the 101 until it starts back inland. That's Ruby Beach. It isn't a sand beach, it's a pebble beach. Just gorgeous, if you use the google link above, turn on the photos!
It's almost 3 hours for you, but it's 8.5 for me! Now the rest of you, keep this on the down low... I only share my favorite beach with quality people like you!

I think you did the right thing with the late eggs. I believe if those two had still been alive they would have been moving. I don't think you killed them.

GeeVee, was the double-wide from the farm then? Wonder if it will have the puffy cheeks? (I love those. *melts*) Congrats on *all* your cute chicks!!

NaomiSarah,

I'm sure you will get your babies soon! Just keep trying.

Rin, good luck with your own eggs!

Sending good vibes your way(s)!

We pulled 2 out of the 'bator last night, and 6 this morning. There was one zipping and there were three other pips when I came in here. Oh, I had to move the oldest chicks into a covered aquarium.
I was dipping one of the little ones' beak into the water and when I pulled him up there was a chick hanging from his toe!

So now they are in an activity tank with things (other than each other) to peck at and climb on.
I couldn't just

them, but

I don't want mean chicks... even if they are 'just bored'.

DD's favorite (of course) had been making a game of running up to the container I used to separate the newest 6 from the others and pecking them on the head. (Funny though, one of them stood up, and pecked her back!)

Heh, my first chick ever, Megatron, was hatched and was alone for the first week.... when Optimus hatched, Megatron was picking on him so badly I had to separate them.... but all Optimus did was cry D: He just wanted a buddy even if he got picked on! When I added Fox a couple hours later, even though he was still soggy and uncoordinated, Megatron came over to peck him too and Fox bit her back right in the face! You can bet Megatron left Fox and Optimus alone after that one!
