July Hatch-a-Long

Pics
Aaaaah! it's only the end of day 18 and I am going NUTS! :barnieI swear that some evil chicken hating wizard placed a slow motion spell on me because every minute feels like forever wait for my hatch to start! :he AhHHHHH! I am never gonna make it!:thI am just going to die from anticipation! I know it! No, no I can do this. :rantI'm gonna...um...read! Yes! I will read!....about chickens....

I checked on my broody duck this evening when I went to lock up all of the animals for the night. She's got one duckling and external pips in the other four eggs! Hopefully when I go and check tomorrow morning she will have 5 fluffy babies.

Aww! How exciting!

I'm going to move my broody tonight and if she stays put I'll pop some runner duck eggs under her, all these fluffy duckling pics have convinced me I need more ducks!!

Due to my cat's antics I had to go into lockdown a day early because they crashed into the incubator and 2 eggs cracked! Thank god both the chicks seem to still be alive but those darn cats can be a menace to incubating eggs! You should be okay with yours. Momma birds get up for sometimes a couple of hours at a time. I think that the worst thing that will happen is that they may hatch a little late.

I'm very glad my cats don't really notice my incubators until the eggs hatch! They get a bit obsessed with watching the chicks though!

I’m now almost halfway through day 17 and decided to lockdown because I’m impatient/my air cells are a tiny bit big. I added a little too much water and my humidity is around 83%... which hopefully will be ok because it tends to drop really fast... which made me just realize that I don’t have anything to keep it constant. :barnie Is a sponge best? I can add in a little cup of water but that worries me when they actually hatch. Any suggestions? (I have the janoel12 incubator).

Also I’m literally nesting! I’ve almost got their brooder all up and I can’t sleep and I keep peeking through the bator expecting something to happen (which it obviously won’t because I have a few more days left). This is so stressful and exciting (but mostly stressful until they’re here)!
