July Hatch-a-Long

Pics
Day 19 in incubator for me today, and when I went to check temp and humidity this AM, I shined a light on the eggs and got nice, strong chirping from one of the eggs in response. Woot!! Somebody has internally pipped! Went to check on my broody hen, who is on Day 20, and she's got a newly hatched chick underneath. Can't tell which color yet, as all she would permit me to see was a teeny beak of sweet baby. :) Hooray!

Look what I saw when I went to check on mama hen at lunchtime! A baby was hatching and I got to see the chick emerge from its shell. So sweet- baby was chirping to mama, and mama was clucking back at baby as if to say "come on out, darling." This egg came from either blue or black Ameraucana hen and blue Ameraucana roo. The broody hen is my only barred rock in the flock, all other birds are Ameraucana or Easter Eggers.

So many cute babies! :love

I thought my eggs were due to hatch Saturday, but I got my dates muddled and they aren't due til Monday! Oops!

I've set 8 runner duck eggs under my broody LS, I haven't hatched anything from this drake yet so fingers crossed for some ducklings! I had really good hatch rates with my old drake, but he was horrid and was stressing the ducks too much, so he had to go!!

My cockerel had to have an operation to remove his eye 10 days ago and has just had his last vet check. I'm hoping I still get good fertility rates like before as the girls are a bit better at escaping his advances now he's only got one eye!!

Been a busy day- had one early hatchling in the incubator, and one hatch under my broody hen. Doesn't look like any other eggs are hatching imminently, and my incubator baby seemed so lonely, so I went and put him(?) in the nest with mama hen and the other hatchling. Everyone needs a snuggle buddy.

I’ve been away from the house today so I can’t watch to see if anything is happening so instead I’ve been obsessively checking the temperature and humidity! (I have a sensor push which connects to my WiFi and I can monitor the temp and humidity in real time on an app on my phone). It’s the end of day 19 so nothing should be happening with my silkie eggs but you never know! I’ll be home in like 3 hours and then I can relax. Ha just kidding I probably won’t sleep for the next few days :lau
