July Hatch-a-long

nothing! but I found some in the bator last night marked 7/1 so quickly put them in higher humidity...nothing from them yet!! there is a possibility that #4 is a duck egg! not due until the end of this week....either way I don't see movement!! silly me!!
I like the idea of having 2 bators, one used solely as a hatcher. It would be so much easier,

Thank you Gen9! Thermometer from Wally world and fan is off a old computer case I had laying around. Lights was also a $6 Walmart special. Thermostat I had here waiting to be used for a baseboard heater I never got around to installing. No clue why I kept but am glad I kept the fridge cooler when we made the pop up a little trailer. Sure worked out great with the tray and ridges hold eggs nicely.

Day 20! This is always the longest day for me. My house is already spanky clean and so are all of my coops and hutches. Going out to test the temperature on my brooder...again. Arg! I don't know what to do with myself today.

Good luck to everyone who's hatching soon, I can't wait to see more adorable chick pics and hopefully share some myself! :fl

That's where I got my thermometer lol. I went to a computer repair shop down the street & asked if they had any used computer fans for sale, they gave it to me for free! The only thing I had to pay for was the water heater thermostat and the thermometer. I think when I get some extra income I'll get a few extra thermometers and a wafer assembly.

I was going to get a wafer but this one holds within 3 degree which so far is working good for hatching. Just keeping the humidity up has been my trouble. I put wet rags and highest I can get is 71% which isn't horrible but have to rewet them 3 or more times a day besides the bowl of water I have in there.

I know I would never buy the style that's in the farm innovator as its unstable as all get out. Cooked 33/41 eggs so far so shut it down lastnight and put last 8 in my Brinsea and they are iffy looking.. I was just testing it for a friend as she was having problems. She has another same style, I candled for hee lastnight and pulled 8 with red ring and a dozen looked iffy but left them in to candle in a week or so. Last year she had no problems, I don't think they last very long personally.

Looks like my poor broody will have no eggs hatching from the BLRW. :( I have a plan though. Next time she gets off the nest, I'll give a treat to my other 2 broodies in hopes one will come off the nest. I'll take 3 Malines eggs & replace her duds with them. This way, she'll just have one more week to stay broody. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Sounds like a good idea.
Sorry about the duds.

Thanks. No biggie really. The Malines are my focus. I only got the BLRW eggs because it was a surprise that my production red went broody & I had no rooster. I was picking up some call ducks when I told breeder my broody story. She had several breeds of hatching eggs available. It wasn't until a week after that I had planned to pick up the Malines eggs. In a way, I'm glad it worked out this way. Now all 3 broodies will have chicks around the same time & will all look the same.
