I have been hatching Lavender Amercaunas too .Same color as the lav Orps. I like Lavender!!
Babies are just as cute Actually cant tell them apart when new
Gotta be careful looks so alike
Thought it would be nice to get some blue eggs from a lavender hen! Unique
I am pretty excited about them .Have some hatching Friday(I hope)

I forgot I have 1 splash colored Americana, looks white and lavender but is young yet 3 months. It was thrown in on a deal buying BO chicks. Oh forgot I had those too Ughs can't even keep track of them all.

Cute story: 2 years ago I bought a silkie/Cochin bantam roo and a black Cochin hen. Well last year my son took her to the petting zoo they have yearly at his school. He brings Maria home and he's acting like a roo. Within the week started crowing. He's now named Jose. I bought him some Cochin bantam hens for breeding but he wanted nothing to with them. He was treating me and my daughter like his hens, doing the rooster strut for us and bringing us goodies. Anyhow he's very tame rides on my shoulder while cleaning coop and such. So 3 months ago my daughter thought it would be funny to put him in with the 25
-week old chicks we had in another pen and he raises all those babies. We just let them free range last week and he's taking good care of them. He's apparently going to be no good for breeding but will make a good saroget(sp ) mother/father for my chicks.

Jose is the black Cochin bantam on lower left with his BO and barnyard chicks.

and I would love to have a roo like that!

I had the prettiest little brown baby in the nest tonight and I think there were four more pipping. Mom was not to happy with me snooping around under her, so not for sure. One might have been zipping... It was a really big pip if not... Lol. Won't be able to look again till tomorrow evening after work... Hope for all seven by then.

Wow so many post. I have been so busy lately and too tired to get on.

I just put two silkie eggs in bator today ( shhh don't tell DH)
Candeled eggs in bator and pulled out the clears.
I looked outside this morning and Neil by buff Cochin is out free ranging. I was confused so I went to look in the coop and her 5 eggs were gone. What happened? Idk. I know I have killed a few chicken snakes. Well at least she is alive and healthy.
My two mommas that hatched out chicks together. Well ester has decided she is fines with the chicks so Angie is taking care of them now all by herself. There are only three chicks so I know she will be fine. Maybe Ester will start laying again soon.
I am looking for some more quail for my son. Hopefully I will find some in our area soon!

The first time I incubated eggs was earlier this month. I started with local 18 barnyard mixed eggs in my homemade, cooler incubator. All started well but I had a chicken get loose in the house and bump the heat control. I only had two hatch and one I peeled out. First two are growing fast, the one I peeled out is so cute but very tiny. I learned a lot.

My second try with my homemade incubator. I have a mixed batch of pure breeds but they were shipping by a soccer team or so it appeared. Only one silkie egg out of 16 eggs is good. (I really wanted the Jersey Giants, now I can't find anyone selling just a few, affordably.) My solitary silkie egg is due to hatch on th 30Th. The little guy will have some company.

I added Silver and 1 golden Laced Wyandottes. They were shipped but not far. Their hatch date is August 2nd. 11 out of 12 looking good.

I orderd a bantam mix, inexpensive to try out my 2nd homemade incubator. They are due to hatch on August 6th. So far 12 of 16 developing. They had a rough time in the mail.

I wasn't sure how reliable the homemade incubators were so I bought a LIttle Giant from Tractor Supply. I put 24 Lavender Orpingtons, 9 Bantam Buff Brahmas and 27 Mixed Guinea eggs in on the July 19th. The LO and BBB hatch date is August 9th. The Guineas hatch date is August 16th.

I have a few eggs from a friend that had been in the fridge. I used them as fillers. I have one that is developing. I was shocked. It's a Red Star cross Salmon Faverolle Bantam.

This is so addictive. Hello, my name is Deanna and I'm a Chick-a-holic.
