Lol, withdrawal! Yeah, I hear you. After this bunch, it'll be a full coop. Must wait until spring for more chicks. Lavender birds are so lovely!

Hello! I have a slight problem, first time this has happened, I had two broodies which one was sitting on about 5 eggs.. then I discovered I had another broody in the coop about a weekish later, thought she was laying around cause it was hot, but turns out sitting on one egg, the first broody (I'ma call her coal) she came out of broodyness after trying to move her into the broody pen and so I moved my other broody ( Betty white, splash Cochin) whom was sitting on an egg which I found out it was more ahead than the other 5.. Well, it's hatching time learned the baby she had been sitting on the longest hatched (Turns out to be rooster, of course.. but he is totally cute not sure how I got a little brown guy from all of the chickens) What do I do about the now other 2, ( I have a problem with my broodies getting the craving for eggs.. I put about 4 to 5 under normally end out with two, how can I stop that? Do they know they could be dud eggs?? )

If the last one left the 2 eggs then you have to incubate if she wont go back on them
Mine hatched 3 still sat on the nest but taught the 3 how to eat and drink so was only on the nest part of the time.
. Then took them outside after a couple more days but tried to get back to the other eggs and set when she could but wasn't full time
Still 2 hatched and I took last egg inside and incubated the last one for 2 days until it hatched
Maybe you can make a little incubator for the last eggs or buy one used?
I used a $2 Styrofoam cooler then put a candle type 40 watt bulb in it aluminum fro m a cut up can around the bulb when the temp got too high and a piece of cheap picture frame glass In the lid, holes to let out heat , hardware cloth on the bottom and it worked fine All found items
Stayed the right temp even without a temp regulator but a thermostat would be best to

make sure it stayed right
Ok for lock down and short stretches without the regulator

Same here!! I woke up early this morning, excited to check the incubator, then I realized that I don't have any eggs in the incubator. I won't be hatching again until February

I'm so sad about it.

I went back and did the math from this year's hatches. I had 7 hatches, with an average 75% hatch rate. The verdict isn't in on all of the younger chicks but so far, 80% of all chickens I hatched this year are ROOSTERS. Good grief. We'll have to make room in the freezer. I also lost several to a fox attack, and during a storm, lost multiple pullets to flooding. So that's a bummer, but at least I'll have room in the coop to do more hatching next year!

Please let this last hatch be pullets!
