Any one have any idea why all my babies would hatch but die within an hour of hatching!?!?!? They also hatch weird to me right out of the side???? That's not normal is it none of them peeped either all they did was make a hole in the side then make it bigger and bigger till they could fit out????? I don't know what I did wrong temp and humidity was right on all the way through incubation also they hatched on day 25 So what did I do wrong also rotated 3 times at the same time just makes me sad

We are over run with ants!  I'll have to read about keeping them away. They are probably too light for sticky traps, can't put poison.. hmm Will have to check that out!  Pam

Have you tried putting rice near their homes. The ants eat them and their tummy expands and they die.

Unfortunately, taking out the rotation disk and putting down paper towels was also on my to-do list when I noticed the early pip.

It seems to have enough purchase at the moment, though, and is doing its level best to disturb the other eggs thoroughly.

Results:

I set six eggs under a young broody hen. One hatched. My broody was obsessed with burrowing her nest down to the wood and then she cracked the eggs. I kept adding new straw and fluffing up her nest. she also inadvertently buried two eggs in her scratching around. One I found and put it back under her when we were down to four eggs. One egg hatched on July 2 and the other cracked open on the 4th by the broody and was not alive. So I have one chick. She is taking good care of the one chick but I so was hoping for three. I may go to the feed store and see if they have any new hatchlings and get another chick if they are close in size. We are hosting kids from Europe with the EF Homestay Exchange and I was wanting to show them the baby chicks. The one chick is very cute. We have always had good luck in the past with other broodies. This one was young to be broody anyway.

Been there. Sounds exactly like my last hatch last month. Most were like that. Still trying to figure it out & I'm guessing my hygrometer on my new digital genesis is wonky! It reads up to 10% higher than my other one. So I figure the humidity was actually too high. Now I'm going to follow my other hygrometer for a hatch I'm starting tomorrow. I'm certain to be more successful, as I've used the separate one before with better hatch rates.

I think I got a defective unit because it also had some condensation building up along one edge under the control panel. GQF won't ship me a new unit, as I'm in Canada. Too expensive to replace & ship a new top. Was told to call hatchery I bought it from. He told me to fix myself with some silicone caulk. Funny too, got the turner & it wouldn't run at all. At least they shipped me a new motor, as it wouldn't cost them much to replace & ship it. Oye!

Sorry for the ramble, at least I know what I have to do now. I was just hoping for the plug in, set it up & forget it kind of bator folks & GQF were claiming.

All right, no more doom & gloom! Let's get these eggs hatching! Woo hoo!

Ugh! Day 23 and still only two babies!! But I'm just gonna wait till day 25 to open the bator up again chicks or no. Any that don't hatch will get eggtopsied, which I fear may be a few. Thought i saw some internal pips, but I'm new and they were moving a bit, so could have been wrong.
