July Hatch-a-long

So if how do you know when you have an internal pip? is it when you hear peeping but no external pip?
If you were to candle when you have an internal pip you would normally see a triangular shape shadow near the air cell & yes most times you can hear them peeping once they make the internal pip, but not always

I thought about using that but I was afraid of what fumes it might put off when it is at such a warm temperature inside the incubator. Since you have used it without problems I feel better about using it. Thanks for sharing that tip.
When I first cut the pieces to fit, I them wash them with a little bleach & warm water, then pat dry. That's also how I clean them after hatches.

So much going on here! So happy for the new babies, and sorry for the ones with losses.

I candled again today to check on that one iffy egg. I went ahead & tossed it as it had not changed. So I now have 5 GREAT eggs left out of the 8 set. Not bad at all for the first of my own eggs. Lockdown is Sat, this hatch went by quick!

I am still collecting my SFH eggs to set next week. As of today I now have 3 of my 6 SFH girls laying.

Oooo, my lockdown is Saturday as well! So glad to have someone to go through this with me! You've been so helpful PugBug...

Looked under Scarlet and found a fuzzy! One fuzzy one external pip and at least one chirping egg :) I love broodies, so much less anxiety lol

My broody bites me if I even get close enough to put her food within easy reach. She should have at least obe fuzzy under her by now. Hopefully, she will get up soon to walk around. She hasnt moved for at least 5 days.

I ha
I have one marans egg in here as well, & I saw veins but so hard to see any movement. I am thinking of throwing it out, but I should probably wait to candle again to see if its grown like the rest.

I actually have never, not one single time, seen movement before hatch. I don't throw out unless they are obviously clear or obviously heading south.

It's not quite day 21 yet and I have 2 healthy chicks (a Sussex and a splash marans) and 7 or 8 large pips. Best hatch I've ever had.
