Wow! came in the house and my hb said check and see if you have a chick,WHAT? Thats not till tomorrow? But look at that. A baby favarolle. A tiny baby OHHH its a darling a little soft sweety trying to get about in the incubator. No one else moving about so I quess its tomorrow for the rest. Hummmm. The temp. seems to be holding well now. Wonder what was going on with the incubator before.

Me and my endless questions - this thread has been the BEST! Thank you for the virtual handholding.

I am preparing for lockdown tomorrow. Got my shelf liner. Got my tubing for inserting water into the dams to keep the humidity up. Preparing the egg cartons for when I take the turner out. HOLY HECK - the silkie eggs are WAY too small to fit in the cartons if I cut the bottoms off. What do I do with the silkie eggs to keep them at the same height that they've been incubating at?

I always lay mine on their side when they go into lockdown if they have been in a stand up turner. Gives the chicks a chance to move into a 'natural' hatching position.

Thank you. That is why I asked, I know a lot of factors could have caused a bad hatch. The one with no eyes threw me for a loop though.

deformities can still be caused from temp & humidity issues during incubation, not always genetics...

Today ends Day 22 and I have 23 hatched. There are 12 remaining, but no pips and no cheeps. Will leave them til the morning then probably end this hatch. 8 Ameracaucanas, 7 Blue/Splash Marans, 5 Black Sex Links and 3 Sussex. The Hovabator makes things so much easier!

4 black and 1 red hatched. 2 more to go, and 10 more due in the next week. Those are from the incubator.

The broodies won't let me see much. The 1 sitting on 13 eggs had 1 that made it to half hatched and quit. She let me peek and none of the others have pipped yet. The mama on the nest of 4 barely lets us feed her without pecking. those should be due around Wednesday. Now, if I can just figure out where Daisy is laying, I will have more to set. Hoochie keeps hiding her nests real well, or else laying atop another broody.

Out of 19 I have 5 babies out 1 more half way out, 1 with a large pip hole and 2 with small pips. So hoping to 2 with small pips do something! Those are my Favs... So far only 1 has hatched. 1 is not nearly enough...

You give me hope, I have 19 in the bator right now, going into lockdown on wednesday. I will be thrilled to get around 10 chicks, but I really hope all of them hatch and are healthy. This is seriously nerve wracking. I've set aside more eggs just in case I don't get as much as I hoped for.
