This is my first time hatching anything. I'm very excited.

So what made you choose Favs? I have them in my bator too so I was curious if you had the same reason i do...? They are beautiful birds and seem to be really friendly... Plus they are on the threatened list so doing what I can to help them keep going!

I ordered me some longtails

I got 8 two were cracked and so far 4 are forming. They have only been in since Monday so hopefully the other egg will form the last one appears to be a blood ring. But I am crossing my fingers.

My first hatch was my very best, beginners luck.

The next the sorriest

I realized late the temp had been way too low and the calibration on my genesis had somehow gotten off and was not showing right. Now I use a mercury thermometer to calibrate it and set it acc. before I ever set the eggs. Right now I have it set on 100.2 and it is holding it at 99.8 Sometimes a bit higher but never lower. which seems about right for my eggs. I found out because the eggs that had hatched were two days late, and only 10 percent hatched

. Wow! that was a shocker on very expensive eggs. Now I set it up two days in advance and get the hum. and temp really stable. Lesson learned. Also never put the incubator in a sunny spot or a spot near a vent or breeze. common sense yes, but not always thought about when we are excited about our babies to be. Not a closed closet either. They need O2 to breathe.

What made me order Fav. They are said to be gentle, good layers and are beautiful to boot.

I have an aunt who raises chickens, and is always kind enough to give me some now and again. When I, last year, got a Salmon Faverolle from mypetchicken.com, she was all excited. She had been looking for them in her area (she swaps and sells with other small scale poultry farmers in NY) and wanted to know where I got my girl. I told her, but she ended up getting eggs from someone else. When they hatched, they were very poorly, and ended up dying. She's past the point in the year where she's hatching and brooding on the farm (she has other fowl and goats from which she makes her living), so I thought I would hatch some and brood them for her as a thank you for all the hens she has given me.

And salmon Faverolles are wonderful!

I left on a long day trip, and all I could think of going home to was the incubator. I mean, I have thirty other chicks in brooders, plus pets, but I really wanted to check the temp and humidity on the incubator first! Lol!

Wow, thanks for the tips! Sorry that had to happen with your second batch. Thanks for sharing the lesson! I loved my salmon faverolle. She was not a docile bird at the bottom of the pecking order. She was loud, obnoxious, and I think slightly crazy. She was top hen. Totally the opposite of your average fav. She was broody and sitting on eggs up until last week, when a raccoon got in. The coop has been reinforced since, and the raccoon and his buddy dealt with. Breaks my heart to have lost her.

I think that is how most of us are too! Non stop thinking eating drinking breathing and talking about the bator and our eggs!

ok here is my story..... I was in on the June hatch a long and right now I have 15 out of 28 eggs hatched and waiting on the others to hatch. I am gonna set some more eggs for July's hatch a long as soon as my bator is empty.. so I have 13 eggs outside that I am gonna put in the bator if my hen don't go broody by Tuesday the 25th and a friend gave me 8 eggs to add to the ones I already have. I picked the eggs up from my friend Friday afternoon and wrapped them in a tee shirt in a grocery bag and put them in my bedroom closet until I got a carton to let them settle in. Saturday morning I used the last of the eggs for breakfast so I could have the carton and proceeded to set my eggs in there but I couldn't really tell top from bottom on them. I started candling the eggs to find the air sack and guess what..... 7 out of the 8 eggs are already developing. OMG!!!! luckily they were still alive and I got them put in my spare incubator. just from looking I am guessing they are about a week into incubation leading them to hatch on approximately the 6th of july. I will candle them again in a few days to see if I can get a better estimate on how far along they are. sooooo.........

I have 7 American Game eggs due to hatch on approximately the 6th and I will update on how many if any eggs I put in the bator later this week.
