July Hatch-a-long

I'm in for July too! We have a black sex link who started stetting on ONE egg! Needless to say, since she stayed, I gave her six more miscellaneous eggs. Gold Comets, Silkies, Sizzle, Easter Eggers.

Gonna be fun to see what we get. Also, she is in the highest possible nest box so not sure when, but I guess we will move her.

I have a little orpington that has decided to set...she started laying eggs in the nursery but since there is a mama and babies using it we kept collecting the eggs, the babies are on their 5th week, anyway she isn't getting off her last 2 eggs...I guess I give her a bunch of hay and some more eggs and let her set! that's the best...I love watching the hens with their babies

Wow, July 1 and the thread has 22 pages already.

After hatching 2/12 salvaged eggs from my deceased roo last month (they are now 4 days old), I'm hooked, and my Buff Orpington is helping with the addiction by going broody. I'll be picking up a dozen Marans hatching eggs tomorrow for her. I was thinking 6 or 8, but my friend (who has the Marans) is giving me/selling me a dozen eggs.

Therefore, I need advice before I get the eggs tomorrow.

1) Should I put all 12 under her or put part of them under her and part in the incubator?

2) She has picked a spot on the floor of the coop in the corner of the coop where she likes to lay her eggs (she doesn't like the nest boxes). Can I just leave her alone there and let her hatch them there? I have 8 other hens and they get along pretty well together. She is toward the middle of the pecking order.

3) I have a Hen Hoop that I will be putting the 2 that hatched last week in when they are about 3 weeks old (actually about the time these hatch). Is there any chance that the 2 3 week olds and the broody and her chicks (if any hatch) would get along together? I have only the one extra area for chicks, so this may be a problem.

Crap, I'm obsessing again. June all over again.

Welp... it's official! I'm addicted! I set 22 eggs and it's my first time. I'm VERY nervous. I even had a nightmare last night that some of my eggs had holes in them and they were hollow inside. Hatch day is July 19-20th. I have 2 roosters, one blue/black copper marans and the other a blue splash marans. The hens are RIR, Black Sex Link, and Ameraucana. Did I mention I am nervous? I haven't been sleeping well chicken the temps and humidity...

***ETA; checking... constantly checking temps and humidity.... oh brother I haven't finished my coffee

I got totally OCD about my hatch last month, too. I think it may be a lesser known part of the disease (chicken math).
