July Hatch-a-long

Well something told me to check the eggs. Good thing too. The temp had fallen again. !!!!!!! ?????? what I wanted to do is not in the book. One egg was cold to the touch. I checked and it chirped. I quickly layed it on a heating pad and pricked its air space and its breathing fine although i don't know if it will make it. The other 4 are dead and beginning to decompose.

. I have one very lonely Fav. that's is healthy and chirping one that might make it from 13 eggs because my one yr. old Genesis hovabator has flipped its lid. The warranty is off now.

I think I will just use a broody or order chicks for awhile my heart is broken. I did ectopses. The chicks were formed but beginning to liquefy.

Oh I'm SO sorry...

I'm not so patiently waiting for lockdown this evening... So what do I do while I'm twiddling my thumbs? Why, line all of the 3 week old (hatchery) babies up for a photo shoot.

It's really past being out of control, but I never really was any good at math anyhow. I have no idea what I'm going to do to keep my mind busy for the next 3 or 4 days. At the point where you're lining up chicks for portraits, there's really not much else...

Totally OT, but I don't know anyone else who could look at this kind of thing and know that I hadn't actually lost my mind except my fellow July hatchers! The kids happily helped, but the hubs just sort of raised an eyebrow and shook his head.

NOW COME ON NEW BABIES!!!!!

Love it Crissie! Great pics!
Are we all OCD or what?!

Completely OCD. I just put the 'bator babies into lockdown and I seriously cried over it being SO out of my control. Hubs again raised an eyebrow and said something about throwing the bators away when I wasn't looking if it was going to be this traumatic. Silly boy. Go build a coop or something.

One of my two had a foot out for a little bit before the rest of him/her hatched. I had to help because he/she pipped at the wrong end and ran out of steam after 36 hours of trying.

did this one go on to hatch ok?

this I one of the weirdest things I have ever seen a chick do

Mine was unsteady on its feet and kept fall over. It actually slept on her/his back the first night. Thought it was dead when I saw it. Nope, jumped up when I tapped the incubator. (I really think it is a she at this point (2 1/2 weeks old), but not sure.)
