July Hatch-a-long

I put 20 more eggs in the bator

They're due to hatch August 3rd. The dozen I have cooking (hatch July 23rd) are all doing great as well. :fl Getting closer!
Hey howfunky! My first batch is set to hatch that day too. Hoping all 6 BLRW eggs hatch under broody #1! Whatcha got hatching then?

Also hatching July 29. 18 Malines split evenly between broodies #1 & #2.

P. S. One of the 6 eggs mama abandoned had pipped. The membrane was dry and it had nearly shrink wrapped. DH and I, and our daughter, all took turns wetting the membrane and helpibg gently loosen a little shell. Baby has now hatched and dried. It has a but of membeane stuck to a wing, but the other chicks are helping to loosen it. We will see how he/she does.

1 of the 5 has a star pip, and of course it's in the SIDE of the egg- I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Have had this happen before & it turned out fine. I just hope the others will come out fine too. And I set my first 16 eggs from my SFH's tonight too. Along with 1 more silkie/sizzle egg & 3 eggs from my pen that has bantam cochins & bantam brahmas. They will be due to hatch Aug 5

Day 13 for the 6 eggs under my BO broody. I caught her off the nest, so I candled a day early.

1 -- appears clear (but these are very dark Marans eggs, so I didn't remove it -- no smell) I'll make a decision at the end of the week.
2-- air cells off center, one on the side, one side of the big end. Strong veining in both.
3-- appear to be fine. One was so dark I couldn't see veining, but somethin' is growin' in there ;-), the other two, very strong veining.

She's doing really well with them. Only off the nest once a day and usually during the heat of the day. She has stopped growling at me because I take her special food every time I visit the coop. Her nest is on the floor right next to the waterer (smart bird) and not in a normal laying nest. Go Marlena.

I have 6 in the incubator that I put in 1 day after the eggs that I gave Marlena, so I'll candle them on Wednesday (if I can keep my hands off of them that long). Temp steady at 100, humidity at 30%.

They are due around the 23rd.
