July Hatch-a-long

Thanks funky. I know I can't get over it, everyone in house is sick of me say"guess what, I have a lav orp" they say"ya I know mom geez how many times are you gonna tell us?". Now waiting on 2 pips and 2 nothing.
We love hearing about your chicks.and......it is impossible to post to many pictures......................We enjoy them...............

My family is the same way .I resent it.....When someone says "Mom, Why don't you get rid of those chickens. It is to much work for you."
I want to say "Why don't you get rid of your dog?" They just don't get it.........One of my hens, Sweetie, is a good friend........She sits on my lap and we have conversations.....
she comes to the back step at 4:30 every afternoon
and waits for her grape If I try to give her something else...she spits it out......

She is older than mud and has not laid an egg in so long, I doubt she remembers what they look like.
Your in good company here...............

I've been giving them rooster booster vitamins + electrolytes since they've been out of the brooder, I can also try giving her sugar water. yesterday she seemed fine eating and drinking... I switched out the buddy I saw it kept pecking at the area where the cord was... now she's with a loud chirper, and now she's chirping back. I'm hoping that will keep her stimulated. They're laying together. under a lamp inside the house. She's also breathing a little faster than the others. I tried giving her a little bit of water but she didn't want any. put it on my finger and dropped it on her beak, I didn't even see her move her beak at all... All the other chicks are doing great. I have the lamp off and air circulating in the garage.
Sounds like you're doing all you can. Sometimes they're just born weak & don't recover. Expect the worst & hope for the best. I hope she bounces back though!

Same here. Hubby is going on our annual summer motorcycle trip with a friend because I didn't want to leave my chickens that long. They give me a reason to get up in the morning and be outdoors more often. I get so much entertainment from watching them I have no need for tv. Not when the chicken channel is on all day long. :)

Thanks. I mixed some raw honey and water with a tiny bit of raw ACV in water, she won't take it. she is pooping very little, and it's mostly white. I hear a clicking sound from her mouth, I think that means she's dying. She's chirping still. I don't get it.

well now I can't tell if the clicking is coming from the mouth or the vent

oh well.

Oh no! Sorry for your loss Gen9. The hardest part of incubating, to be sure. So many highs & lows, it makes me wonder why I still want to do it?! All I can say is, the highs are better than the lows & I appreciate the ones that do make it, so much more!

Yowza! You win! I thought I had it bad when I started incubating for first time in January. Brooder in basement, but still. Ugh, the dust! Couldn't wait for them to graduate to grow-out coop! Now my mega brooder is in garage. Much better!
Yeha i truly could have cried by about Jan.It took me 3 days to clean the bathroom up after they were out .and NASTY job!!! It still isnt that great I need to paint the walls yet . GUH
You can imagine
Lucky we dont use it Pic is of early on... the first wooden brooder- cage I made One went on top of this wood one later and one across the room
This is just the one and 3 cardboard and tote brooders before they got older and needed bigger.Pine shavings out the tootoo. Uncontrolable
If i have any cant take the cold this

year yet i will put them in my unheated metal out building with one or 2 space heaters ...a coop with a bulb anything but for SURE not in the house again.
