July Hatch-a-long

I thought I'd update :)
I ended up with 7 chicks from the bator. So, only those 5 eggs didn't make it. Weird.
I'm also up to 3 broodies now, and one more seems to be thinking about it. I have 8 eggs left in my bator due to hatch Aug 3rd (gave 4 to broody #3, the other 2 girls are sitting on Sizzle eggs), if my other hen goes broody I'll give her those 8 eggs and put my incubator away for the year. I'd definitely rather have the hens deal with them than put my chicks in the brooder. My daughter talked me into to 2 call ducklings as well. Admittedly, it didn't take much convincing. They're adorable, and my Silkie babies like to crawl up on their backs and go to sleep :love

Awesome! Let broodies do it whenever possible. We got some call ducks too last month. Great little ducks!

Im on day 16 one of my eggs are wiggling dose this mean im getting and early hatch or is it normal am i going to have ajuly hatch or august there due date is 4th of augest

Had my first exploder. Not inside the bator, butprobably taken out just in time. I candled it and it looked fluid, so i went to poke the shell at the air cell. Had to change my uniform shirt, clean my glasses, face, arms, and wash my hair. Thank goodness I pulled it today before work. Yuck!!!

Looks like it pipped internally and drowned. From what I could see without puking from thenasty muck.

I remember having a similar event when I was a kid. Discovered a rotten smell in one egg. My dad said to carefully take it outside...as I walked out the front door with this egg in my open hand the temperature change must have caused it to contract just enough...it exploded all over me. I was luckily outside in my Jammie's. easy to strip down and run inside to the shower. You still had to clean up your house after showering again! Nasty smell huh?!
