July Hatch-A-Long

I am in!!!! Have 10 silkie sizzles in the bator for a 4th July hatch...and a broody hen on at least 2 eggs past 2 days

I got the half dozen Wheaten Ameraucana hatching eggs I was hoping for today so I stuffed them in my incubator. And I do mean stufffed. There are now 25 eggs in my Brinsea that is meant to hold 24 max. These latest additions should hatch July 6th, which is 5 days after the first eggs I put in the incubator.

Looking for advice from people who have done staggered hatches in an incubator. Can I stop turning all the eggs when the first eggs need to go on lockdown, or should I hand turn the 6 that put in late for a few more days?

I'm with you!! I have never hatched eggs before so I may not do anything right, but I have to start sometime. I decided to try this because I was cooking Friday night and grabbed eggs off the counter from my last collection. All 6 were not only fertilized but they were runny and looked like they were about 3 days into fertilization. So I got my brand new incubator out (Farm Innovators Pro Series Circulated Air Incubator Model 4200). It has a forced air fan kit and an automatic egg turner and it even came with an egg candler. I only have 1 rooster and he is an Easter Egg-er. So I will have mostly crosses. I put in 16 White Leghorn eggs, 12 Americana eggs, and 8 brown eggs (they will be either Red Sex Links or Barred Rocks). So 36 eggs went in. I will be happy if 2 or 3 come out at this point. I broke one egg while I was trying to pick out the ones I was going to use. It was definitely fertilized. So I'm not worried about them not being fertilized, but I'm worried about everything else. Having never done this before I worry about over-heating, under-heating, low humidity, and high humidity. With setting them today, they should be hatching on July 5th. Anyone have any tips or encouragement?

Make sure your humidity and temp are right, for a forced air incubator it should be about 99.5 at egg level. I'm not sure if yours is a forced air or not, you'll have to research that. I keep my humidity at about 35% during incubation and 60-65% at lockdown. This is in my Genesis 1588, you'll have to figure out what works best for yours. It seems scary at first but when you candle your eggs in 7 days and see them developing you won't be so worried any more. :)

@prettysilkies What color of peafowl are you expecting? Have you incubated them before? Are they from your own birds? Shipped? Just curious : )

I have 18 pea eggs due on the 6th. Candled today and at least 13 look good so far, they are hard for me to see into so I won't give up on the other 5 yet, though a couple might be infertile.

Went into the coop today to check on my 3 broodies when all of a sudden I heard I hen scream! So I went to the next chicken house and there in one of the nest boxes was another broody hen. She must have just started because all of her eggs were still cold! She has got 13 eggs that are due for the 7/8 of July!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait. I am goiung to have a lot of chicks! I am going to have about 50/55 chicks when all of my broodies are done!!!!!!!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
