July Hatch-A-Long

My 8 silkies are due tomorrow. I think they will be late - when i candled them a few hours ago i couldnt see internal pips. They were alive though. I am so worried ... im worrying that the temperature was too low or too high, and there was an issue with air sacks being too small. They look ok now but all that waiting is killing me...

I'm worried about my air cells, too - going into day 14 and when I candled last night the air cells haven't changed at all since day 7. Blergh.

I really really REALLY hope your eggies hatch without any problems! I adore silkies!

What is your humidity? It sounds like it might be too high. I don't put any water in my incubator until lockdown. I try to keep it at 30-40% for the first 18 days. Then, I bump it up to about 60%.

Good luck to everyone that has chicks hatching soon!

Ill tell you what I did. On day 14 i got rid of all water, opened all vents and laid eggs on dry rice which i changed daily (heated it up in the oven to dry it). I marked the cells so i could see their development. They got bigger eventually and the day 18/19 they really changed! I was shocked. I only added water today not long ago.

Edit: candled again :p 5 have pipped internally, 3 haven't yet but they are moving. I marked where the beaks are so i know where to look for cracks in the shells.

I'm on day 20 with my 6 duck and down to 9 peafowl eggs... getting nervous and excited! I may have some green peafowl that could hatch early! It has been raining and super humid here so trying to keep humidity down. My air cells look small too and I have been doing a totally dry hatch because with just the eggs alone, humidity has been around 35 to 40%.

I did have some baby bunnies hatch today! 6 cute little pink babies!! Can't wait to see what colors they are!

I can't believe I just did this... but I got a trio of Seramas the last weekend and one came with 4 eggs she had been sitting on. She stopped sitting on them after the move so I put them in my incubator. I had been candling the eggs and could not see any veins, any movement... seriously they looked dead and so today I took all except one and cracked them open and of course in one of them was a perfectly formed chick... just a day or so away from hatching. It could have been dead already but I think I killed it

I swore to my self that when in doubt I would wait, but I was so convinced that the eggs were no good. I am just so sad about this one that might have made it. This incubating is hard stuff sometimes. I do have two left, one I think has not developed but the other one may have a real chance.

awe! im so sorry! I can relate! my hen was sitting on 3 polish eggs and I broke one open to a perfectly formed chick. formed all they way to its date of incubation, day 15, with toenails feathers scales, egg tooth and such. I was so depressed. thing is, the egg smelled. I didn't get it, maybe it was dead, but anyways I felt bad looking at a chick I had no way of saving.
