I am sure there are more but she will take my arm off if I mess with her. She is a very protective mother.

I have a hen who looks just like her!! She's currently sitting on golf balls that I will switch out with chicks once these ones hatch!!

Hi Gimmie Birdies! I have 6 BR in the bator due Juy 9th. This is my first ever hatch! So egg-cited!

Good luck! I had 2 broodies on these eggs, and I checked on my birds today, one hen was still on her eggs, the other ate 2 dark eggs, and 3 were not fertile, one dark egg had a peck mark, so I have just 6 eggs left under the good mom.

Yikes! So sorry! Is this her first time brooding eggs?
I was just having this discussion with my husband. This is our first experience with chickens. We got 2 RIR's and 1 gold laced wing bantam this spring and I was reading about offering them cooked egg and egg shells to give them protein and help with calcium for laying. We were wondering if that would encourage them to eat their own?

As long as it doesn't look like an egg they won't start to eat their own.... this hen was new, I normally have fake eggs and golf balls in the nest to discourage egg eating, another hen may have done this when she was off the nest. I hope the other eggs will be ok.

I am incubator hatching these. I wanted more eggs from my friend, she sold them to an organic store 45 min. from my house, I ran up there and bought all her BCM eggs with 5 SFH eggs tossed in and one Blue Isbar egg, the lower right 3 eggs are from my coop, 2 olive egger/blue Isbar eggs and one tan LO/blue isbar/australorop mix.

Oh no! You had to pay retail! Lol. Those eggs have such beautiful color! I opened up 2 of my 6 today. After candling I saw 1 blood ring and 1 clear. They were completely scrambled from shipping. My 4 I have set are doing well, but 1 has a completely detatched air cell and another is partially detatched. I don't think I'll buy shipped eggs again. I've discovered a couple local breeders lately that I think I will use. Here's my scrambled blood ring...

Here are the 4 I have set and they're air cells. Do you think they look low for day 7?
