Sunnyside Hatchery in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, sell a meat bird they call a "Jumbo Broiler". Is this a Cornish X/Rock, or do you think it is a strain they came up with? My reason for asking is, I have read Cornish X cockerels get between 4-6 lbs around eight weeks, but Sunnyside claims their broiler cockerels get 7+ lbs in the same time. Can this be right? Has anyone ordered from them?

I think it would be cornish rock cross, but it could possibly be a jersey giant, although that is very doubtful.

Okay, but I still don't understand how their cockerels can get this big if they are a Conish X/Rock.

Are they talking live weight....

I finish mine to 7 weeks and some of the males dress over 5.5lbs and that's with restricted feeding.

My source for Cornish X says 7+ pounds in 8 weeks*

*= 75% of live weight for dressed weight on average. I think that would just about work out to what you're seeing.

My last batch of Cornish Cross had an average dressed weight of 7.29 pounds at 53 days, so, yes, they will get over 7 pounds. My biggest was 8.4 dressed!!
