Jumbo Egg Surprise

I think someone on the forum tried to hatch a double yolker once but didn't have success. If I remember correctly, the "twins" made it up to zipping, then died. I imagine it would take a lot of vigilance to have a successful hatch with a double yolker. Maybe someone who has done it will tell us how they did it.

We've got one too.

didn't weigh it, but did get out the ole tape to measure it. As you can see, it's a good 3 inches. hahaha.

My Golden Comets lay a huge egg about every third or fourth day. They are always double, I can't wait to get a triple!! I put a hole in the back of each big egg and take the egg out (we eat them of course) and clean and save the shells, fill them with salt and seal the hole with candle wax. I have a basket of huge "eggs" on my table...people think they are whole eggs. I also have our tiniest egg in there too! I only save the ones that won't fit in the egg cartons.

I just love Golden Comets!! They are the best layers of our chickens.

I have a black sex-link that almost always lays double-yolkers..and she has laid a triple. I didn't get a picture of the triple since I had given the egg to a friend -- she took a picture but hasn't brought her camera in to download it.

They are great and give many people great joy when getting one!

Congrats on your first double-yolk. Your's Aus. looks a lot like my black sexlinks..so maybe they are also from that family

Hope
the picture comes through if not you can read about it on the confused chook thread (opinions welcome on the confused bird - possibly the mother, "father" or it of it)

It was a double yoker and despite it not sitting flush where we cracked her open, I just measured the empty shell just now at 75mm (3 inches).

Uncracked it must of been between 85mm to 90 mm in height.

Finally got the pics off hubby's camera!!! Slight color enhancement on the one of the yolks. They aren't really that dark! (edited to change are to aren't)

Wow! Both my EEs lay green eggs, but not that big. Interestingly their yolks are darker than any of my other chickens. They're all together too. My second EE laid her very first egg today! Maybe hers will end up being larger than her sister's.
