There is a difference between actual wild muscovy and domesticated muscovy (feral muscovy fall into the domesticated category). Have you seen a muscovy drake up close? They are built like a tank truck. Domesticated drakes cannot fly once they reach a certain weight. They can have leg issues as well, but if taken care of properly, they will live a long life. Pekin ducks in general are prone to leg issues. They are a breed that is used as meat right alongside muscovy. Most people love to have pekins as pets. If fed properly (not overfed), they also can have a good life. It's like the differences in breeds of dogs some are just bred to live longer than others.Yes muscovies are also large birds, but they're wild as is, so their frames/ legs/ wings can handle their size easily.
