Only a few days until the chicks come! Am I crazy? A good percentage of our property is a barren wasteland of sand. Where is the lush green grass? In my flower garden. Where are the wild strawberries? In my other flower garden. I have been spending a lot of time digging up plugs of grass and transfering them to the chicken run, along with wild strawberries, dandelions and weeds. And I'm digging deep into the firepit and carrying many shovelfuls of this rich material and lining the fenceline with it. Since my fitbit is broken, I'll never know how many miles I've gone doing all this. Then I plan to grow marigolds along the fenceline inside and out. Being April, it has rained a lot, and my grass plugs that were planted first are growing! I feel like a crazy person but I sure am enjoying it all.

PTL! The babies have arrived, all 7 alive and healthy. The 2 Buffs went to the water first and showed the others what to do. It's hard to tell the RIR from the Buckeye or the Easter Egger. Time will tell...but for now just thankful they all of a sudden arrived at our door when I was so disappointed early in the morning when they were not at the post office!
