June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Sorry I'm joining in kinda late but...

I set 2dozen eggs (7 ducks 1 turkey 1 guinea 3 quail 8 bantams and 4 amerucaunas) on May 29. I got them from a friend. The turkey and the duck eggs were the last ones she had and they were stored for a month before I set them so i was pretty much assuming they wouldn't hatch.

Just this past Friday (day 7) i candled them. All the ducks appeared to be not developed. The turkey i wasn't sure about, but it didn't look to be developed. The quail and the guinea I couldn't see. But then i candled the chicken eggs (which were literally layed the morning of setting) were all alive and wiggling exept one which looked to be yellow and infertile. 11/12 w00t! What a nice surprise! So now on day 9 I am extremely excited for hatch day! This is my first time incubating poultry eggs (I have incubated reptile eggs before lol) and its really an amazing process.

I keep the incubator at 100- 100.8 and (try to) keep the humidity at 55% they are turned 3x per day

Gosh I've been so busy, I haven't been able to check on my broody in two days. This is the slowest incubation ever. I'm only 7 days in, wth?! I swear, time is CRAWLING. I think I'll candle tomorrow maybe. You all with pips are making me impatient.

I lied. I candled them right after I wrote that. One egg has gone missing, leaving me with ten. At least six of those are viable, including one from my EE! I have never had one of hers develop, even a little bit. I finally got one, yay!

The young broody is a trooper, and doing fine. I gave this one to my 7 year old daughter. Daughter says she's "very proud" of broody hen, and that she's a "good girl."

PS: Have any of you every seen a broody wiggle herself back over her eggs when you replace them? OMG so cute! First they poke the eggs back under with their beaks and then they kind of flex and vibrate to settle them in.

Yah I keep waking up to louder chirping...and find em hatching out one by one...but when I woke up this time 2 had hatched out..Now I'm up to seven hatched 2 with external pips...and two that I'm not sure how they doing now since they haven't pipped and been being used for soccer balls..lol...I'll post a picture of all them in the morning...so as of right now I got 7/11 black sex links with two more on the way....I got 5 males and 2 females.

Well I culled the one this morning that had the intestines hanging out..he was deteriorating abd the others was picking on him..so now I'm down to six chicks and 4 eggs left to hatch

Sorry you had to do that Elginchickens :( I'm sure that's hard to do, necessary sometimes but still hard. I hope the rest of them hatch okay for you
