June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

I've got a pip on my d'uccle eggs! A little early, but I'm not surprised since they are bantams.

11 ducklings hatched and 2 maran x chicks. 4 duck pips and 1 maran x pip. This has been my best hatch ever and my 1st duck hatch. Hopefully my next hatch will be the same. I have 12 Isbar and 12 Cream Legbar eggs waiting to go in.

Congrats on your hatch!!! You have great breeds! I have Isbars and CCL in my flock too. They are only about 4 months old though. Can't wait for their eggs!

We have 6 Silkie easter egger cross hatched out of 6 put in to begin with. Half look like our white Silkie half look like their ee daddy. They all have feather feet!
6 more ee eggs waiting on day 22 with no pips, but they have crazy thick shells so I am still holding out hope.

I would love to see a pic of them!!! Bet they are cute!

Thinking about our setup once the chicks hatch and wondering if we need to change/add anything?  Maybe I need to start another thread to ask this??

You can see in my pic up a few posts, the roost and the nesting boxes, do we need to add another set of boxes for the other hens to lay in?  Also, we're going to add a lip on the boxes themselves to keep the little chicks from falling out, will that be enough?  Will the mamas get the chicks out okay?  Worried about them falling when she takes them out :( And then after she takes them out what usually happens?  Does she take them to a corner or do we need some kind of something for the mamas and littles to be in until they can all roost?

Sorry for so many questions, my mind is going a million miles an hour LOL!  If it's better to ask all of this in a new thread I can for sure do that :)  Thank you!!

I don't change anything when I have a broody with babies. This year she is in with all the other chickens and we haven't had any issues. They are a week old and she took them outside. I freaked out a little since my coop is 2 feet off the ground but she got them all back up the ramp and in the coop. She did however take over a nesting box for all if them to sleep in.

Good luck and I know the feeling!

Thank you so much for your reply :) I'm just so worried to do something wrong and so I'm second guessing everything ;P I really want to just trust nature and let things be (NOT my usual personality LOL!) and so your post is very helpful :D

We have chicks!!!! Mama's a Welsummer with 4 of her own, 3 Ameracauna (or just EE), and 3 SLW or GLW all with a Wellie daddy. Today was day 21 and when we went to put everyone to bed 9/10 were hatched and the 10th is half out although not necessarily the right direction. Thinking good thoughts for that last little one but here is what I could get of the fuzzy butts before mom completely wigged out and got up (did not want that to happen UGH!!)

That first pic she has quite the stink eye!

Also we have another broody due in 8 days on 6 eggs, crossing fingers!!
