June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

Yea! i had 4 shipped eggs hatch and 2 were pipped when i left this morning.

one of the chicks though.. came from an egg with a saddle air cell, so the chick was pretty cramped in there, i saw it last night after hatch, late, and this morning when I looked, its all fluffed up but its neck is sideways and it wont stay on its belly, just the side or its back. I took it out briefly to see if it would straighten and it flipped out, so I put it back.. i dont want to hurt it. i am hoping it straightens out and is just got a stiff neck from being squished...

Molly, Try giving it some Poly vi sol (non iron) baby vitamins. Sometimes the stargazing is a vitamin deficiency, sometimes nothing and sometimes deformity. Praying that it will works itself out. Congrats on your chicks!

The alarm on the incubator woke me up at 4 am. I wonder how long it had been cooking my eggs?

I am completely heartbroken as I had put the best Cemani eggs in there for hatch! I am going to need a miracle here...

Oh no!!! Hopefully it alarmed in time. I've had spikes up to 113 degrees before and the eggs still hatched. Was it a malfunction? I hope your incubator didn't fail on you.

thanks. I will pick some up today. I wrapped a folded paper towel around the neck head.. just a little and not tight at all.. then i stick the chick, towel and all into a toilet paper roll... then we held it and talked to it (to keep it calm.. otherwise it wigged out of the paper towel) I looked this morning and it was standing! the neck was a little sideways, but i would say its improving!

we've also got 18 chicks out! 11 of those are out of my 18 shipped eggs...i cant even tell you how elated I am about that!! we werent expecting so many of the blrw, so I might just get to keep 1 or 2 of those! i think there are 9 or 10 eggs left to go, 3 were pipped, so I will give them all the rest of the day and candle.. i should have more eggs coming in the mail today and I have been saving my own BLRW, I havent had much luck hatching these guys.. for some reason they get to lockdown and thats it...my broody has hatched 2 and last year they hatched 3...i wish I had a broody to give them to!

The could be fine! It depends on how long and what day of incubation. From Brinsea:

that is some good info to know!! I always worry about it and mine very rarely goes over 102. however this morning i moved my thermometer to the coner of the cooler, way from the chicks, it was reading 104! the spot i had it in the middle was consistant at 99.3-100.5... so i may have to ask the hubs to add another fan. i noticed that all the chicks on that side hatch a day early...but that seems to be only a degree or so...

I just put 33 quails eggs into lock-down, set 50 the 29th of May, checked them yesterday and 15 were not fertilized, 2 had cracks. I saw an egg with the air chamber on the wrong side, but I put it back in the hatcher anyway. Sometimes they hatch. We'll see.

Outside I have two Brahma-x mothers with 4 chicks each, 3.5 week and 10 days old. Easy does it. It is a joy.
