Outstanding! I have always admired ohiki's for their beautiful tails...!!! Best of luck! Can't wait to see them!

Ok, so for days 19-21, no turning, increase humidity, place eggs in carton large end up, cross fingers. Is that correct? Anything else I can do?

You can cut the bottom off the carton for airflow. Make sure you have a sterile and clean carton...as minor minor chance some disease can carry into your incubator.

See if you would like to add a sterilized sponge in there to help humidity. Do you have a hole you can add water to and avoid lifting the top for a few days???

Also candle and draw the final air cell in pencil. That way you know if they have pipped in the air cell!!!

Then sit on your hands, sit on your hands!!!! Wwoot woot!

thanks trying to make a breed specific flock =] bought 3 roos, 2 unrelated and a few hens from a guy that bought them from boggy bottoms (where i bought my own eggs) hopefully i will be hatching alot more =]

Well now two other hens have gone broody LOL! So that's 4 altogether now :) Half of my girls are sitting ;P Hatch day for hens 1&2 is the 21st and I am SO excited!!! :D Praying all goes well, I talked to some friends yesterday who proceeded to tell me their horror stories about their chickens trying to hatch eggs...awesome JUST what I needed to hear *eye roll*

I hope they hatch for you!

Keep an eye on them to make sure the hen does not abandon them.

Thanks! :) I'm excited but trying to remember that none of them have hatched babies before as they're only a year old and so being realistic knowing that things could not turn out as perfectly as I have them pictured in my mind

I think this first-time quail hatch is a bust for me. After loosing the one hen and all but one chicken egg which might not even hatch, I just locked down the quail eggs with poor results. I candled the eggs as I locked down and only five are still viable. The rest were completely clear, infertile eggs. One chick was already internally pipped, but hatch day isn't until Tuesday. The other four were dark shadows without any discernible movement. :idunno Things don't look good for this hatch. I may have to just buy some quail chicks, so DH can raise his own quail.

Awe! So sorry your hatch is not working out, don't be too discouraged. The first time I used my LG still air incubator, I set 36 eggs an NOT ONE HATCHED. All were fertile. :( We all get better at this each time we read more, come back, and do it again with more experience next time. The main thing is enjoying and learning, even from the hard lessons. Have a better day!
