June 2015 Hatch A Long HAL

i am so sorry =[ *hugs* i hope they hatch for you I'm so nervous about mine i left 2 in because i wasnt certain but they just werent developing... another had a blood ring i suspect from when my incubator fluctuated...at least everything is going well in the personal bator *fingerscrossed* i hope we all have good hatching
Good luck to you too! I hope those two hatch for you. I really hate it when the incubator is perfect and then as soon as you add the eggs it decides to freak out!

The hatching has begun! I have 41 barn-yard mixed eggs - so far 5 have hatched and many more are pipped. I am hoping the eggs from the Cream Legbar crossed with a Welsummer Roo all hatch. So far a couple are pipped but not out yet. Once I get this hatching stuff down I am going to try with some purebred eggs. I would love to get some Coronation Sussex eggs.

day 12 and I'm as nervous as can be I had a friend of mine incubate my 18 Bantam eggsI had a couple with blood rings in them I may get 6 out of this hatch
fingers crossed it looks like a lot of bad hatches going on sorry to hear everyones losses and good luck for those who still have hatch is yet to come

I think this first-time quail hatch is a bust for me. After loosing the one hen and all but one chicken egg which might not even hatch, I just locked down the quail eggs with poor results. I candled the eggs as I locked down and only five are still viable. The rest were completely clear, infertile eggs. One chick was already internally pipped, but hatch day isn't until Tuesday. The other four were dark shadows without any discernible movement. :idunno Things don't look good for this hatch. I may have to just buy some quail chicks, so DH can raise his own quail.

Awe! So sorry your hatch is not working out, don't be too discouraged. The first time I used my LG still air incubator, I set 36 eggs an NOT ONE HATCHED. All were fertile. :( We all get better at this each time we read more, come back, and do it again with more experience next time. The main thing is enjoying and learning, even from the hard lessons. Have a better day!

Yeah! The hatch isn't a complete bust. I woke up this morning to 2 hatched quail chicks! I had to leave for the day and returned to another quail chick. So far, of the five that locked-down 3 have hatched!

How long do the need to stay in the incubator? Chickens stay up to three days; is it the same for quail?

Oh well... tons of news over here. My broody is about a week away from hatch day and since she's been there I've only been getting 1-3 eggs per day that the other hens lay on top of her. I thought maybe they were too scared of Mrs. Broody to want to go in there and lay. I was right and wrong.

My kids left the feed pellet box open. They've been laying in there, right on top of the feed. The sight of all those eggs made my barred rock decide to brood, also. She's aggressively guarding 15-20 eggs while sitting on the entire stock of feed. She's my alpha hen, too. Who knows where the other hens are going to lay now.

I'm considering moving Mrs. Alpha hen into the chickpen with Mrs. Broody tonight after dark. I was going to do a day 14 candle of Mrs. Broodys eggs anyway. With two weeks between their hatch days, does anyone think it would be a problem to make them share a brooding pen? Will Mrs. Alpha abandon her eggs when Mrs. Broodys eggs hatch? If I have to I can probably move Mrs. Alpha elsewhere. Opinions?
