Oh I hope mine hatch!!

Just a general question for all who use incubators. Do you raise chickens comercially or do you have a high loss ratio? How big are your flocks?

Not a commercial flock and no high loss ratio, I just like to hatch and you don't always have a broody when you need one! Plus I'm raising several rare breeds that need help and so I hatch all of their eggs I possibly can, and you can't do that with a broody.

Two of my cemanis are out and the third is pipped! The first one hatched at about 4:30 in the morning and is perfectly black. Number 2 hatched right before I left for work and it needs to fluff up, then I'll judge if it's a cull or if it gets kept for breeding :)

mynext batch of eggs to go into my incubator probably on the 8th of this month I have 15 Black Copper Maran eggs that I ordered off of ebay and I'm should have about 13 to 14 of my own eggs they're going to be black sex link that I got from my Rhode Island Red Rooster and my barred rock hen

I don't know if the HAL is for broody people, 'bator people or both. But I have two broodies (so far) that are on day 14 and 5. The first broody is on 10 eggs (7 Ameracauna and 3 Wyandotte, all with an Ameracauna roo) and the second is on 6 eggs (same mix). First hatching ever. These hens are my first and I brooded them in my basement last year and I thought the hens could do the work this time :)

Here's the first hen screeching at me-notice her beak is open.

Howdy!

I am pretty sure this thread is for both broody and incubator hatching. :) Keep us posted!

God Bless,

I went out yesterday afternoon and one of the broody's was off the nest and outside with the others eating and such, PHEW! Glad to know she's out and eating and drinking

The other broody was still in the nesting box in the same position she was in ALL DAY  I tried to put a little bowl in there with some water and she pecked at me, no noise just bam! Good thing I had gloves on LOL! Anyway, I thought okay well, I can't really do anything for her, just praying she knows what she needs to do and will take care of herself??

Also, there were two eggs in the top nest, I didn't dare try to check under miss GrumpyPants lol! A friend is coming today to do that for me, she has had chickens for a lot longer than I have and she offered to help. I would like to get them all marked too.

I did notice that all the other hens laid their eggs in other boxes, someone made a beautiful nest on the floor under the boxes and they lay there as well, whatever ladies LOL! As long as you're laying hehe! So I was relieved that no one is getting in with the broody's to lay

I was worried about that. So as of now I know I have 2 eggs, anxious to see how many the other one is laying on.

Here's a pic from yesterday (you can see the one laying on the best on the floor, 3 of them laid there yesterday) The hen in the bottom box is miss GrumpyPants :p She just LOOKS grumpy LOL

Hi everyone! I've got olive Eggers due June 19th, this is my first hatch! Out of 29 eggs, many are dark brown (father had the green egg genes, mom is a BCM, some are the other way around and much easier to candle) so I can't tell what's going on in there! It'll probably be a complete surprise if/when anything hatches. Is a dark blob with no discernable veins a good sign at day 5 in a dark egg? Shipped eggs, from 2 dufferent places. Good luck everyone!

Candled mine on day 8 and have only 5 blanks out of 41 eggs!!! I am so happy. The EEs are 100%. Now the waiting for lockdown. Ten days will go so slowly, then the last few will crawl! Hatching is so exciting. Only one more hatch after this one and I am done for the year. (Of course I say that NOW, and later join Incubators Anonymous!)
Hope you are all having good broodies, candling, lockdowns, and hatches. Keep the cute baby fluffy photos coming!
