June 2025 hatch-a-long

I’m in!

I have some due June 5th, marans (blue or black), langshans (blue, black or splash) and orpingtons (black or lavender, black or lavender mottled and a chocolate silver laced) I’m calling them my LMO mix.

and then depending on when this second shipment gets here…. Have kelsos and ayam cemani going in

They sent 2 that were incubated already 12 days and I don’t know which breed that was so if they’re still viable (I know all the research says they will not be) those would hatch Friday and the other fresh ones would be due somewhere between the 7-9th I think.

If they get here. Tracking hasn’t moved so I’m not expecting them to make it tomorrow when they’re supposed to be here so just have to hope they make it soon and are ok.

It’s my first hatch. I definitely have a lot of stress hitting and am just hoping for good results so I can make the argument for a second incubator. Don’t have any friends here that do chickens so borrowing isn’t a thing and ordering another wouldn’t have made it in time so here’s hoping
Good luck! This is only my second hatch ever, first with shipped eggs and I'm seriously stressing. Mine are due the 6th I think.

Good luck to you both! I'm excited to hear how it goes!

I'm only on my 4th hatch myself (chicken > ducks > chicken under a broodie > now ducks again)

So this is day 13-ish for the incubator and ~ 18 for the eggs under broody. I threw out all but 5 of the incubator eggs yesterday. No development, infertile or possibly quit so early there's barely a trace of anything in the egg.

I think the first batch was completely infertile, picked too early, or maybe they were kept too long before putting them under broody (cause she broke the day i got those eggs and had to wait 2-3 weeks for her to sit again.)

The bator eggs are closer to expectations for that parent pair, 50% fertile. So I pop'd in 12 more in the incubator. 2 are cracked and patched up with nailpolish, a bit of an experiment...

And I pop'd 6 large chicken eggs and a couple ceramic under broody so she keeps sitting until I can slip ducklings under her... Got to not forget to switch em out because they'll develop way quicker than ducks and I'm not planning on more chicks this year (thinking about it but it wouldn't be reasonable)

So hoping for 11 ducklings from 17 eggs, now due between june 5 and 15...

This is Peggy our broody Blue Swedish.
Five eggs are due to hatch in six days. First time mama and she is doing great.

Well, I ended up putting some water in one of the channels in the Hova-bator - the humidity dropped down into the twenties and was still dropping. I'm not really sure why. I was very unhappy with that. In any case, between having half the channel covered, and one vent open, it seems to be staying in the mid 40's now. Now I remember having a heckuva time with the humidity in that incubator the last time I used it. In any case, I'm keeping a close watch on it and trying to make sure it stays somewhere in the mid 40's and nervously thinking about putting the eggs out of their little carton cups and onto the egg turner roller (Incuturn - the type that rolls them on their sides,) this evening.
