Abooth @ your chicken keeping policy. I know it's a simple idea, but i never really thought of it in those terms, thanks for sharing! I want to expand my BR flock, but was just thinking in terms of adding on, not really managing. Thanks for the new take on things

Day 20 no rocks, cheeps, pips or zips......

but the temp and humidity is holding steady.

and the next batch lockdown on June 22nd.

I have 4 pips and a lot of cheeping. A few of the pips are very small. The first 2 were pretty solid punches and one is progressing with a few extra. The 2nd one hasn't done anything else in about 6 hours. The last 2 are smaller chips that have only been there for 4 hours or less. What is the longest Pip to Zip time?? I know it's a lot longer than 6 hours, but when do I give up?

@ Sport: They can take upwards of 24 hours after pipping, so just be patient. There are a few guides on these forums (I think one is linked here on the 1st post, otherwise there's 1 stickied to the forum at the top of the thread list) to helping your chicks hatch. I think the basis is that if they are still peeping or moving or breathing, and they don't look like they are dried to the egg, to let nature do it's thing for the first 24 hours.

First pip seen just a few minutes ago!

out of 10 eggs in lockdown.....
added extra water to bring humidity to 50% (with syringe and small straw).

I will keep you all posted!

I have a Barred Rock chick!!! I have a Black Copper Marans that has knocked out a 50c piece sized hole but most of the membrane is still intact but he seems Ok and is slowly working at it. I didn't use the egg carton method and the new chick is wreaking havoc with the other eggs. This must be Ok right???

He is so cute. I had to pick up my kids early from school so they could see him hatch!

7 outta 13 BO hatched this AM -day 22. No more pips.

1 outta 5 BSF hatched this AM - day 21. No more pips but maybe since the BOs hatched a day late. ....???? What do y'all think?

buffbeauty I would give them til the end of day 23. If I didn't see any new pips at that point I might quit.
