June hatch-a-long!

Pics
So the day before yesterday's night I picked up Jessie and a d'Uccle egg was sticking to her feathers and dropped when she was in my arms. :hit:hit

I'm disappointed but it was only on like day 2-3 so it wasn't awful. Millie laid another egg yesterday so I put that under.

SSH egg that was cracked is doing well... I have to stop candling them and leave the poor things alone! :barnie

6 more days till the first expected hatch date! :clap
The first time I hatched eggs I wanted to be way to involved. This time I’m leaving it alone. I put 24 in the incubator. I only candeled twice through the process. Three were yolkers. I screwed up and didn’t move them to the bottom tray and dried one up so out of the 20 that were left I’m up to nine. I only had a 50 % hatch rate last time and so I’m hoping this time I can do better. I’m waiting on a few pips to show themselves.

I'm in Ontario too, living in an apartment at the moment. Yes getting eggs/chicks from the border is difficult, the 2 hatcheries I know that sell to Canadians charge $75-$100 for papers because they have to have a vet check. At one point eggs were not allowed to cross the border even with papers but I think they allow eggs and chicks now with papers but there are restrictions on certain types of poultry.

Anyway how do you find it having bantam breeds that aren't very cold hardy? When I lived in the states I had cochins and silkies but when I move to the country might start with cold hardy breeds like wyandottes.

I'm at work until late now and missing checking the incubator every 2 minutes! My husband sent me a photo of the one's that hatched that are all nice a fluffy now :love

The one that hatched yesterday has gone into the brooder with the older chicks and is very feisty! They are all getting on well though and the week old ones were having a snuggle with it when I left!
