June Hatch A Long

I got the second one out of the shell. So two out of 34. Blah.

Ouch! 2 out of 34 is painful! At least you were able to get a couple peeps out of it! The Mallard eggs I picked up earlier this month were all bad. I was only hopeful for a couple of them and it was clear in the first week that they were no good. Little successes like two healthy peeps is still a welcome success with roughly handled shipped eggs!!

Okay guys,so very early in the morning, I chipped away the shell over the cell & coconut oiled the membrane. I made an AWFUL mistake today thinking that the veins were gone & gently peeled a bit of membrane away because he is definitely shrink wrapped & he started bleeding & I literally cannot stop crying since. I put pressure on & it stopped & he is chirping & moving just like before. Did I kill my ducky ??? Also he has some membrane dried to him, if he makes it, can that even come off, after he hatches ? I'm trying so hard to save him & I feel like I'm just messing everything up severely :he:(

If he’s still alive then you didn’t kill him! You already oiled him, and he needs time if his membranes are bleeding. Let him rest in the incubator and keep the humidity up. Can you take a picture through the window of what he looks like?

Don't panic! It's ok! :hugs Assisting can be very difficult. You stopped the bleeding and he's still moving so he's ok! Now that you know that he's shrinkwrapped and also not ready, all you have to do is wait. He has been safe in the egg for all this time and another day will be just fine as he finishes absorbing the yolk sac and blood vessels.

I haven’t had time to catch up on post here, life has been insanely stressful with a family member in the hospital, my daughter surgery last week and my mom recovering from a stroke. They say things come in 3s, let’s hope that was it!

The eggs have been a nice small distraction for a few minutes each day. Today is lockdown!!! 4 out of 5 eggs were already wiggling like crazy. I don’t think the 5th will hatch. The breeder sent 2 extra, and it was longer and skinnier than I would want, but I put it in. It’s developing, but I don’t have too much hope for it.

Great time lapse video! Adorable ducklings! Are yours autosexing? I understand that a lot of WH breeders no longer select for that trait.
I believe they are. They're being sold as straight run but I'm pretty sure the two out so far are girls. I'm moving them to the brooder this afternoon if slow poke isn't out yet. The membrane still has some veins on it so it just needs a little more time.
